Limestone Wind Ensemble will give spring concert April 7
The Limestone College Department of Music will present the Wind Ensemble’s spring concert on Thursday, April 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Fullerton Auditorium. Admission is free.
Beginning with Morton Gould’s rousing “American Salute,” the wind ensemble will perform a variety of concert band repertoire. Following “American Salute,” the band will perform the Russian hymn “Salvation is Created,” immediately followed by Mark Camphouse’s “In Memoriam” and Norman Dello Joio’s light and comical “Satiric Dances.”
The program concludes with Charles Ives’ “March: Omega Lambda Chi,” written for a fake fraternity at Yale, Ives’ alma mater, and a medley of selections from Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story , including “I Feel Pretty,” “Maria,” “Cool” and “America.”
“I hope that many people find this program to be extremely enjoyable,” said Dr. Christopher R. Sweeney, director of the ensemble. “I know that the students performing really love this music, and it definitely shows.”
The Limestone College Music Department provides a wide range of musical experiences and educational opportunities for students pursuing professional studies in music, liberal studies in music, and for students seeking personal enrichment through music. The music program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).
