A Spartanburg man was killed in a single-car accident Tuesday near the North Carolina state line on Cliffside Highway.
Manuel Eugene Davis, 56, of Spartanburg, died after being transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center by ambulance. An autopsy was scheduled for this morning, according to the Cherokee County Coroner’s Office.
Authorities are still trying to determine what caused the accident.
“We’re still investigating to see if the cause was medically related or what the reason may be,” said Lance Cpl. Bryan McDougald of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Davis was traveling north on Cliffside Highway (Hwy. 221A) about 12 miles north of Gaffney at 3:45 p.m. when his vehicle traveled off the left side of the road and struck a telephone pole.
Davis was not wearing a seat belt.
