MORNING ACCIDENT

— One car caught fire after it was struck Wednesday morning by a tractor-trailer on Highway 29 near the Spartanburg County line around 7:30 a.m. David Gassaway was driving a Freightliner tractor-trailer that collided with a Chrysler New Yorker, causing the car to roll onto its side. A BMW sedan (INSET) traveling behind the 18-wheeler struck the rear of the truck. The driver and a small child in the Chrysler were briefly trapped. "I heard the sound of air brakes locking down and when I looked up from the loading dock I saw the truck pushing that car on its side down the highway," said witness Lee Wells, a Linpac employee of Mimosa Drive in Gaffney. Further details were not available at press time.
