Advisory election is May 7

The Cherokee County Veterans Affairs Office will hold an officer advisory election May 7 from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Veterans will choose from incumbent V.A. officer Sammy Willard and challenger Jack D. Guest.

Polling places are Gaffney VFW Post 3447 on South Granard Street and Blacksburg VFW Post 4941 at Blacksburg Senior Citizens Center.

Absentee voting for veterans unable to vote on election day will be May 2-6 at the Cherokee County Veterans Affairs Office during regular office hours. Veterans wishing to vote in the election must provide proof of honorable service in the military and a picture ID.

This is an advisory election. The winner, if approved by the county legislative delegation, will serve a 2-year term.
