Tonya Greenway Homemaker BOILING SPRINGS - Tonya Renay Greenway, 32, of 3012 Peachtree Rd., died Sunday, April 17, 2005, in Spartanburg. A native of Spartanburg, she was the daughter of Gary Greenway of Boiling Springs and Joyce Foster Greenway of Cooley Springs. She was a homemaker. Also surviving in addition to her parents are one son, Tyler Creamer of the home; one daughter, Tiffany Praytor of Boiling Springs; one brother, Jeff Greenway of Gaffney; half-brother, Josh Greenway of Boiling Springs; step-sister, Knedra Rhinehart of Boiling Springs; step-brother, Dale Rhinehart of Charleston; step-father, Jimmy Ridings of Chesnee; one niece; and two nephews. Graveside services were held today at 11 a.m. at the Boiling Springs Memorial Gardens, Boiling Springs, conducted by the Rev. Russell McCoy. Edna Shelton Retired, Springs Industries LANCASTER - Edna Gertrude Gardner Shelton, 79, of 11 Wexford Lane, Goose Creek, died Saturday, April 16, 2005, at her home. A native of Lancaster, she was the wife of Billy Ray Shelton and daughter of the late John Bunion Gardner and Edna Levina Knight Gardner. She was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher and church pianist. She was retired from Springs Industries. Also surviving are three daughters, Edna Patricia Broome of Fort Lawn, Rebecca Anne Blow of Hendersonville, NV., and Shirley Jean Farr of Goose Creek; two sons, George Franklin Kennington of Greer, and Richard Terry Shelton of Lancaster; a sister, Betty Jean Pate of Camden; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Carol Kennington, and brothers, John B. Gardner and Clyde B. Gardner. Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, with the Rev. Steve Anglin officiating. Burial will be in the Lancaster Memorial Park. Dennis Morgan Served in Army BLACKSBURG - Dennis Eugene Morgan, 58, of 137 Franklin Dr., died Saturday, April 16, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. A native of Shelby, N.C., he was the son of James (Jim) Franklin and Janie Sue Clary Morgan of Blacksburg. He was an army veteran, attended Clearview Baptist Church and was retired from Eaton Corp. Also surviving in addition to his parents are two sons, Robert E. Morgan of Gaffney and C.B. Scruggs of Spartanburg; one daughter, Denise Ann Vipperman of Gaffney; one step-daughter, Misty Smith of Gaffney; four brothers, Jerry Morgan of Grover, Carl Morgan of Early, Lynn Morgan of Cherryville and John Morgan of Blacksburg; two sisters, Judy Olson and Janice Weaver, both of Blacksburg; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Clearview Baptist Church of Grover conducted by the Rev. Miles and the Rev. Billy Boone. Burial was in Cook Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Chris Weaver, Randy Weaver, Jeffery Duncan, Chad Duncan, Matt Duncan, and Jimmy Morgan. The family is at the residence. Gordon Mortuary, Blacksburg, was in charge.
Joe Clary Avid Clemson fan Joe Baxter Clary, 58, of 127 Maplewood Dr., died Sunday, April 17, 2005. A native of Gaffney, he was the husband of June Wilkins Clary. He was a Gaffney High School graduate, an avid Clemson fan and a member of Kirby Memorial Baptist Church. He was a retired regional manager for Security Co. Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law, Scooter Wilkins and Benji and Teresa Wilkins of Gaffney; two daughters, Heather and Susan Clary of the home; two grandchildren, Bob and Margaret Wilkins of Gaffney; a step-grandson Tim and Heather Guyton; and two great-grandchildren, Whitney Guyton and Riley Guyton. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joe and Edith Kendrick. Services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Kirby Memorial Baptist Church with the Revs. Rich Lancaster and Rick Wylie officiating. Ted Matson Sr. Retired from AT&T STAUNTON, VA. - Theodore "Ted" Charles Matson Sr., 72, of 98 Fairmont Dr., died Saturday, April 16, 2005, at his home. A native of Philadelphia, Pa., he was the husband of Louise Matson and son of the late Edward G. and Mildred McElarney Matson. He grew up in Ringoes, N.J., retired from AT&T after 30 years of service in 1985, and moved here in 1995. He was a Korean War veteran, having served with the U.S. Navy SeaBees. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald (Jerry) Matson. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Terri Matson Altschul of Willingboro, N.J.; three sons, Theodore Charles Matson Jr. of Browns Mills, N.J., Victor Edward Matson of Mt. Holly, N.J., and Eric Byron Matson of Gaffney; two step-daughters, Ann Marie Adamko of Kendal Park, N.J., and Lisa Lawlor of Lawrenceville, N.J.; and nine grandchildren. Burial will take place at a later date in the Old Tennent Church Cemetery, Tennent, N.J. McDow Funeral Home, Waynesboro, Va., is in charge.
Homer Mitchell Sr. Construction Roofer BLACKSBURG - Homer Eugene Mitchell Sr., 51, of 710 Burnt Mill Rd., died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center. A native of Bradshaw, W.Va., he was the widower of Teresa Diane Vickers Mitchell and son of the late John Crocket Mitchell Sr. He was a construction roofer and of the Baptist faith. Survivors include four sons, Robert Vickers of Tennessee, Homer Eugene Mitchell Jr. of Lufkin, Tx., Billy Joe Mitchell and Brandon Eugene Mitchell, both of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Cynthia M. Layton of Lufkin, Tx., and Krista and Tyler Moore of Blacksburg; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jesse Mitchell and John Crocket Mitchell II. Graveside services were held today at 11 a.m. at Hillcrest Gardens, Mt. Holly, N.C., conducted by the Rev. Vernon Craig. Pallbearers were Roger Vickers, Clinton McCully, Tyler Moore, John Vickers, Jeremy Toler and Josh Toler. The family is at the residence of 232 Sims Rd., Blacksburg. Annie Dover Cherokee County native BLACKSBURG - Annie Hardin Dover, 76, of 202 Plonk St., Cherokee Falls community, died Monday, April 18, 2005, at Brookview Healthcare Center. A native of Cherokee County, she was the widow of Earl Dover and first married to the late Dale Hardin. She was the daughter of the late Leamon A. and E. Lois Patterson Hardin. She was a member of Canaan United Methodist Church. Survivors include two sons, George Hardin and Ronnie Hardin, both of Blacksburg; one daughter, Dale H. Martin of Blacksburg; two brothers, Woodrow Hardin of Rock Hill and David Lee Hardin of Blacksburg; four sisters, Carolyn Mullinax and Lucy Falls, both of Blacksburg, Katherine Shipton and Shirley Gray, both of Lugoff; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Canaan United Methodist Church with the Revs. Gregg Martin and Tim Knotts officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 6-8 at White Columns Funeral Service in Blacksburg. The family is at the residence. White Columns Funeral Service of Blacksburg is in charge.
