Indian Land n GHS opens playoffs Thursday against Wren
Indian Land
The Lady Indians, who finished as the region runner-up and the No. 2 seed with an 8-2 region mark, will host Wren in the opening round of district action on Thursday. The game has tentatively been scheduled for 5 p.m. Gaffney committed a season-high seven errors. “We outhit them but we gave it to them on errors,” Gaffney coach Kelly Ellis said. “If we didn’t make those errors, there’s no doubt the game would have been closer.” Ellis said her team must put Monday’s performance in the rear-view mirror. “It’s over and it’s a new season on Thursday,” she said. “If we don’t put this behind us, we’ll play two games and be done with it.” Gaffney took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on consecutive doubles by Morgan Hughey and Julie Sarratt. The Lady Bruins scored two runs in the second and two more in the fourth to lead 4-1. All the runs were unearned. The Indians battled back with a pair of runs in the fourth on singles by Hayden Kidd, Keri Sarratt, a run-scoring single by Rachel Avelar and a RBI double by Jessica Turner. Lancaster sealed the win with two runs in the fifth and a run in the sixth. Julie Sarratt, who was tagged with the loss, allowed just one hit and struck out seven.
