TEEN FALLS FROM FURNACE MILL DAM
A 16-year-old boy fell 30 feet off the Furnace Mill Dam in the Cherokee Creek community and was flown by Regional One to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center on Sunday from a pasture near the scene of the accident. The boy was with friends at the county park off Mill Gin Road at approximately 5:45 p.m. when he fell. Emergency personnel from Cherokee Creek Fire Department, Upstate Carolina Medical Center Emergency Medical Services Medic 1 and 4, Chesnee Rescue 8 and Regional One responded.
"He was coming down and his hat fell off," said 16-year-old Josh Cobb. "When he reached to catch it, he lost his balance and fell. He wasn't conscious, but the rescue workers said it was a good sign his arms and legs moved."
Both boys are students at Gaffney High School.
