Carolina Debutante Society presents four young women at annual ball

Festivities held Saturday evening at Spartanburg Marriott

The Carolina Debutante Society presented four young women at its annual presentation ball Saturday evening at the Spartanburg Marriott.

Making their debuts were Jacquelyn Elizabeth Emrich, Sally Ann Hamrick, Haily Bryana Watson and Meredith Moore Wood.

Miss Emrich is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Joseph Emrich and granddaughter of Mrs. Paul George Emrich of Cleveland, Ohio, and the late Mr. Emrich; Mr. and Mrs. James Alexander Wilkins Jr. of Girard, Ohio, and the late Jacquelyn Wilkins. She was presented by her father and escorted by her brother, David Patrick Emrich. A member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, she is a senior at Gaffney High School, where she is a member of the varsity tennis team. She is a member of the Sub-Deb Club and has been an active volunteer with the Red Cross, Meals on Wheels and the Soup Kitchen. She plans to attend the University of South Carolina in the fall

Miss Hamrick is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fullerton Hamrick II. Her grandparents are John Martin Hamrick and the late Mary Elizabeth Hartzog Hamrick; Betty Jo Armstrong Carruthers of Kingsport, Tenn., and the late Joseph Stutz Carruthers III. She was presented by her father and escorted by Stanley Richard Yeargin Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. John Townsend Phillips and Stanley Richard Yeargin Sr. She is a member of First Baptist Church of Gaffney, where she is active in the youth and discipleship groups. She is a senior at Gaffney High School, where she is on the varsity cheerleading and competition squads and a member of the Sub-Deb Club. An accomplished tap dancer, Miss Hamrick is a member of Senior Tap Company Jewels at Julia's Dance Company. She plans to attend the University of Tennessee in the fall.

Miss Watson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charlton Bryan Watson. Her grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Charles Floyd Watson and Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Marshall Ruppe. She was presented by her father and escorted by her brother, Jacob Bryan Watson. She is a member of Cherokee Creek Baptist Church, a senior at Gaffney High School and treasurer of the Sub-Deb Club. She is employed by Hartzog’s and plans to enter Lander University in the fall and major in nursing.

Miss Wood is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steven Smith Wood. Her grandparents are William Cabrick Smith Wood and the late Jean Proffitt Wood; and Mrs. Billy Boyce Moore and the late Mr. Moore. She was presented by her father and escorted by Philip Tillman Moore, son of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Tillman Moore. Miss Wood is a member of First Baptist Church of Gaffney and a senior at Gaffney High School. She is president of the Sub-Deb Club and an avid softball player. She plays guitar and is a member of a praise band. Miss Wood is a student of the Art Instruction Schools and plans to attend Greenville Technical University in the fall.

The debutante season began with the opening season tea on January 23 at the home of Mrs. Joseph Paul Gaino Jr. Co-hostesses were Pamela Stuard Allison, Mrs. William Russell Bradley, Mrs. Kurt Wayne Jolliff, Mrs. Allan Leslie Painter, Mrs. Barry Evan Bailey, Mrs. Lyman Wylie Hamrick, Mrs. Larry Frank Long and Mrs. Reginald Lynn Petty.

A mother-daughter brunch was held at the Piedmont Club on February 19. Hostesses were Mrs. Robert Gettys Brannon, Mrs. John Oliver Childers Jr., Mrs. Richard Shawn Rhyne, Mrs. Charles Samuel Burns, Mrs. Lyman Wylie Hamrick and Mrs. Archel Edward Mullinax.

A mardi gras party was held at the Gaffney Country Club on March 5. Hostesses were Paulette Melton Bailey, Mrs. Philip DeWitt Hulsey, Mrs. Donald Munro McIntosh, Mrs. Michael Watson, Mrs. James Mark Bunch, Mrs. Tracy Alan McDaniel, Mrs. William Price and Mrs. Christopher Lee Wood.

A father/daughter/escort skeet shoot was held at Circle F Farms on April 16. Hostesses were Mrs. Timothy Monroe Bagwell, Mrs. Larry Douglas Epperly, Mrs. Gregory Scott Moore, Mrs. Grady Carson Waites, Mrs. Jimmy Charles Crocker Sr., Mrs. Joe Dee Howell and Mrs. Samuel Jay Swad.

A rehearsal dinner was held April 29 at the Spartanburg Marriott Hotel. Hostesses were Mrs. Lyman Wylie Hamrick, Mrs. Jerry Thomas Stevens, Mrs. Jon Alan Jensen, Mrs. Jerry L. Phillips, Mrs. Frank Wilmore Sossamon III, Mrs. David Bruce Thompson and Mrs. Richard Craig Norris.
