Break-ins at Cowpens National Battlefield

Three vehicles parked at Cowpens National Battlefield, 4001 Chesnee Hwy., Gaffney, were broken into Thursday morning, a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office states.

A wallet belonging to Lisa Churchill of Chesnee was taken from a 2000 Chevy Suburban between 8:30 and 9 a.m.

A wallet and day planner belonging to Julie Hawk of Gaffney were taken from another vehicle.

Two purses, a checkbook and a case with 100 CDs were taken from a 2001 Hyundai Elantra belonging to Constance Merchell Stuard of Cowpens.

Dog owner cited for failing to inoculate

Gaffney police have cited a local man for failing to vaccinate his dogs against rabies.

Jake Lamark McNeil of 205 Oak St., Gaffney, is charged with two counts of violation of rabies vaccination ordinance, a report at the Gaffney Police Department states.

Gaffney Code Enforcement Office Dwayne Fowler gave McNeil an opportunity to show proof the two dogs were vaccinated when he went to the home April 25 after receiving a complaint about a pit bull running loose, the report states. Fowler said he would return Wednesday after McNeil said he did not know if the dogs were vaccinated because they were not his. The officer told McNeil not to allow the dogs to leave his property until he had proof of the vaccinations.

When Fowler returned the dogs were no longer at the home and McNeil said he did not know the name of the person who owned the animals, police said.

Indecently exposed at local businesses

Sheriff's deputies and Gaffney police are investigating separate claims of indecent exposure in public places.

Women have reported the lewd activity at Wal-Mart in Gaffney and at the Kangaroo convenience store at 403 Shelby Hwy., Gaffney, according to separate reports.

A 36-year-old Mooresboro, N.C., woman told police a black man about 5 feet, 5 inches tall and approximately 22 to 27 years old approched her vehicle in the Wal-Mart parking lot April 22 and asked a 15-year-old girl inside the car if she liked black guys, police said. The man exposed himself to the girl, who then picked up a phone and called 9-1-1, according to a report at the Gaffney Police Department.

The man approached another white female in the parking lot before fleeing in a small beige car with silver tinted windows, the report states. The suspect was wearing a beige and white plaid shirt over a white undershirt and khaki shorts, according to the report.

A black man in a silver Chevy exposed himself to a 24-year-old Grover, N.C., woman at the Kangaroo convenience store, a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office states. The man was about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighed approximately 170 pounds and was wearing a light-colored shirt and blue jeans, police said.

The report states the man stood on a concrete block beside a gas pump and exposed himself to the woman.
