Pottery show brings 30 artists to Gaffney
The Cherokee Historical and Preservation Society (CHAPS) is sponsoring a pottery show on May 21 to raise funds for the future Cherokee County History & Arts Museum. "Pottery" on Gaffney's Old Field" will be held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on the museum site at 301 South Johnson Street (corner of South Johnson Street and College Drive.) The event will be held rain or shine. This exceptional pottery show offers something for everyone. Pottery and weaving demonstrations, ironworks, auctions, pottery identification by Phil Wingard - a noted authority on pottery, and award-winning barbecue by Willy T's are just a few of the exciting activities planned. Cherokee County and the surrounding region will have an opportunity to see over 30 of the southeast's most well-known potters and artisans who will demonstrate and sell their extraordinary pottery throughout the day. In the spirit of this special fundraiser, each of the potters is donating one piece of pottery to be auctioned. The proceeds from this event will go to the Cherokee County History & Arts Museum Capital Campaign. "The Potters on Gaffney's Old Field" Pottery Show offers Cherokee County residents and visitors a unique opportunity to see a simple clump of clay from the earth become an object of function and beauty. "We hope that everyone will come out and enjoy the day, and help us raise money to build the history and arts museum," stated Jane Waters, President of the Cherokee Historical and Preservation Society. Barbecue will be available from 11:30-1 p.m. The auction will be held from 1-2 p.m. If you have pottery that you'd like to identify or learn more about, Mr. Wingard will be on-site from 11 a.m. to noon and 2-3 p.m. Admission is $2 per person; children under 12 will be admitted free.
