Brunch

n The Spartanburg Christian Women's Club is having a brunch Wednesday, May 18, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the YMCA. A fashion show will be presented from Harley's Dress Shoppe. Laura Stamm, Miss Spartanburg, will be playing the violin and the speaker will be Paula Muehlhauser from Edgewater, MD. Cost of the breakfast buffet will be $8.50. Call Bobbie at 578-0849 for reservations.

Closings

n The Cherokee County Solid Waste Collection Department and Recycling Center will be closed Monday, May 30, in observance of National Memorial Day. Extra containers may be used for overflow to be picked up on Monday, June 6.

Classes

n Spartanburg Area Mental Health Center will offer the next parenting classes on May 19, 2005. Classes run for six consecutive weeks from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursdays and are held at the Spartanburg Area Mental Health Center, 250 Dewey Ave., Spartanburg. Those wishing to enroll should call 585-0366, ext. 327.

Support groups

n Al-Anon meetings will be held every Wednesday at 8 p.m. at 117 Carlisle Street, a building located behind Limestone Street Methodist Church. If someone you care about has a problem with alcohol these meetings are for you.

n AA meetings are held in Gaffney on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday nights at 8 p.m. on Carlisle Street in the building behind Limestone Methodist Church. If you have a problem with alcohol, you are welcome to attend these meetings.

n Do you think you have a problem with drugs? If so, Narcotics Anonymous can help. NCAA's Helpline number is 1-800-828-5689.

n The Cleveland County Area Brain Injury Support Network meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 19, 2005, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church in the small dining room of the Family Life Center. The group typically meets the third Thursday of each month. This group is for families and individuals in Cleveland and the surrounding counties who have experienced brain injury due to a trauma such as motor vehicle collisions, falls, assaults, stroke, aneurysms, tumor, or other acquired causes. Meetings

n The Greater Gaffney Ministerial Association will meet Monday, May 16, at 11:45 a.m. at the House of Pizza, 1640 E. Frederick St. Plans for an area-wide evangelistic crusade for the spring of 2006 will be discussed. The associaton is open to all ministers of Cherokee County. Church events

n A tent revival with the Rev. Lewis Jackson will be held May 16-18 at 7 p.m. at Westside Baptist Church on Cannons Campground Road in Cowpens. A special singing will be presented nightly.

n Members of Shady Grove Baptist Church, 712 Green River Road, celebrate the church's 124th anniversary Sunday, May 15. Pastor George Henderson will present the anniversary sermon at 11 a.m. The Rev. John A. McCullough Jr., pastor of Friendship Baptist Church, Gastonia, will be the speaker at the 4 p.m. service. He will be accompanied by his choirs and congregation. Everyone welcome.

n Annual revival services will at Bethel Baptist Church May 16-18, Monday through Wednesday. The Revival Evangelist for the services Monday through Wednesday will be Dr. John T. Berry, pastor of Jerusalem Baptist Church in Greenville, S.C. Services will be held nightly at 7. Everyone is invited to come and share in these services.
