Limestone College has combined its Block and Virtual Campus programs into a new division called The Extended Campus.

The Block Program offers evening classes for working adults who want to pursue a college degree. The Virtual Campus allows students a chance to receive college credits by taking Internet courses. A total of 2,400 students are enrolled in the Block Program and Virtual Campus.

The integration of the two programs will allow students to register for Block Program and Virtual Campus classes from any Limestone College site in South Carolina. The college operates satellite campuses for the Block Program statewide, including locations at Greenville, Spartanburg, Gaffney, Columbia, Charleston, Florence, Greenwood, Kingstree, and the Aiken/North Augusta area.

An increase in students taking both Block and Virtual Campus classes prompted the college to create The Extended Campus to better meet student needs, Limestone College Executive Vice President Dr. Charles Cunning said.

“This will make it easier for students to organize and plan their total degree program,” Cunning said. “The students will be able to work with their advisor at the site to select courses they need from both programs.”

C.R. Horton will be director of The Extended Campus. He served as Block Program Director from 1995-2004 and has overseen the Virtual Campus since it began in 1996.

Diana Bedenbaugh, formerly associate director of the Virtual Campus, will serve as Associate Director of The Extended Campus.

Limestone was a pioneer in providing education opportunities for working adults when it started the Block Program in 1976.
