Gaffney police have arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly pistol-whipping another man.

Detective Sgt. Christy Poole of the Gaffney Police Department charged Chauncey “Catman” Nicole Dowdle, of Apt. 63, Connecticut Village Apartments, 409 E. Junior High Road, Gaffney, with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature on Wednesday, according to an arrest warrant at the police department.

Dowdle is also charged with breaking arrest.

Police said Dowdle beat Donald Ferguson on the head and face with a handgun while they were on Park Street in Gaffney. Ferguson required medical treatment, the warrant states.

Detective Sgt. Ron Ramsey Jr. attempted to serve the arrest warrant at 214 Park St., Gaffney, on Thursday, but Dowdle ran from the officer when asked his name, according to a police report.

Dowdle led police down Wood Street towards Fowler Alley when he ran into a back yard at 219 Wood St., the report states. Police said he reached into his pants pocket while rounding a corner and threw “something black” beside the fence.

The chase continued onto Logan Street where police found Dowdle lying on the ground and took him into custody.

Ramsey returned to the residence at 219 Wood St. and retrieved a .22-caliber revolver in a black holster, police said.
