Shrine Club tourney scheduled for June 4
The 18th Annual Cherokee Shrine Club Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, June 4 at the Gaffney Country Club, with a morning shotgun start at 8:30 and afternoon shotgun start at 1 p.m. The format is a blind draw captain’s choice with A,B,C and D players on each team. Trophies will be given for first and second place in net and gross divisions and hole-in-one prizes of $5,000 on all par 3s. Also, prizes will be given for the longest putt on numbers 9 and 18 and closest to the line on number 1. The deadline for entering is June 2. Make checks payable to the Cherokee Shrine Club and mail to: J.W. Rogers, 127 Knollcrest Dr., Gaffney, S.C. 29340.
County amateur slated for June 12
The 18th Annual Cherokee County Amateur Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, June 11 and Sunday, June 12, tourney organizer Bruce Mikota has announced. The Saturday round will be played at the Gaffney Country Club and Sunday’s 18 will be at Cherokee National. There will be two senior divisions, 55-64 and 65 and over, this year, Mikota said. Also, there will be Championship A & B, first, second and third flights. Prizes will be awarded for closest to the pin on all par 3s. The $50 entry fee includes carts and green fees for both days. If paid at signup, there will be no charge for green fees for practice rounds at either course the week before the tournament. Ben Karns is the defending champion. The date for the junior qualifier will be announced later. Contact the pro shop at either club to sign up.
Upstate apprenticeship project to hold tourney
The Upstate Registered Apprenticeship Project will be hosting a Benefit Golf Tournament June 9, at Woodfin Ridge Golf Course in Inman. All proceeds will go to fund apprenticeship training in the Upstate. Registration will be at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start at noon. Teams will consist of 4 players, Captain’s Choice, playing 18 holes of golf. There will be contests, prizes and a raffle. Costs for each player will be $35, which includes a box lunch and heavy hors d’oeuvres at the awards ceremony. Invitation and registration forms will follow.
Ford Complex to host benefit tourney
The Cherokee Ford Complex will host a Benefit Softball Tournament for Jeff Brooks on Saturday, June 4. There’s a $130 entry fee. For more information, contact Tracy Medley at 490-0010.
Rams to host Gators at Love Field
The Carolina Rams will host the Charlotte-based Carolina Gators at Love Field on Saturday, May 2 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $3. The Rams wil be trying to set a new preseason attendance record. The club is also awarding a free $25 gas card each quarter.
