Drugs found in Blacksburg raid

Narcotics agents found cocaine, Xanax and ecstasy during a raid at a Blacksburg home, according to a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

Agent Joey Guyton of the Cherokee County Metro Narcotics Unit has charged Calvin Wylie, 46, of 264 Sims Road, Blacksburg, with possession of cocaine, possession of Xanax and possession of ecstasy.

Officers searched the home at 8:20 a.m. May 27 and found two grams of cocaine, two ecstasy pills and three Xanax pills, the report states.

What’s that in the bushes?

A Gaffney man was arrested after he allegedly tried to hide a stolen motorcycle in his neighbor’s shrubbery, a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office states.

Detective David Oglesby of the sheriff’s office has charged Henry Robert McCraw Jr., 28, of 617 Ashworth School Road, Gaffney, with possession of stolen goods valued at more than $1,000, the report states. McCraw was arrested Wednesday.

McCraw’s neighbor on Ashworth School Road contacted police after she noticed him placing a 1983 Honda Rebel motorcycle in her bushes. The motorcycle had been reported stolen from Spartanburg and belongs to Gilbert Dale Powell Jr. of Spartanburg, according to the report.

Car wash is cleaned out

A local car wash was cleaned out of cash and change during two recent burglaries.

A witness called 9-1-1 after seeing someone breaking into the car wash at 768 Hyatt St., owned by GFCCC Inc., at 7 a.m. Wednesday, a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office states. An earlier report had also been filed at the sheriff’s office reporting a similar burglary between Sunday and Tuesday.

An undetermined amount of money was stolen, the reports state. The cash machines at the car wash bays and vacuum stations were pried into and change and cash stolen. At least $500 in damage has been done to the car wash, police said.

Man charged with burning his house

Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a Gaffney man for allegedly setting fire to his home, destroying it and causing $65,000 in damage, a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office states.

Detective David Oglesby has charged Terrance M. Carpenter, 40, of 215 Brookshire Drive, Gaffney, with 2rd-degree arson. He was arrested at 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Authorities were alerted about the fire at 1:20 a.m. Tuesday.

Suspect caught in parking lot

A Gaffney woman suspected of shoplifting was arrested after police found her sitting in a vehicle in the bingo parking lot next to the Gaffney Police Department headquarters, a report at the Gaffney Police Department states.

Officer Mike Scruggs has charged Betty Ruth Foster, 48, of 506 S. Oliver St., Apt. 200, Gaffney, with 3rd or subsequent offense of shoplifting.

Foster is accused of loading a plastic bag with $22 worth of baby clothes and stealing them from the Family Dollar store at 203 N. Granard St., Gaffney, the report states. Scruggs found Foster sitting in a car in the bingo parking lot at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. The stolen clothes were discovered inside the bingo building, police said.

Drugs found on shoplifter suspect

Narcotics agents seized drugs and a .45-caliber pistol from a Gaffney man believed to be shoplifting at Wal-Mart, a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office states.

Agent Kevin Wilson has charged 19-year-old Jason Vernard Tate, of 124 15th St., Gaffney, with trafficking crack cocaine and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

Sgt. Tommy Kennedy of the Gaffney Police Department requested Wilson, of the Cherokee County Metro Narcotics Unit, respond to Wal-Mart after Kennedy was dispatched to the shopping center to answer a call regarding a reported shoplifter, the report states.

Wilson seized less than 28 grams of crack cocaine, less than a pound of marijuana and the handgun from Tate, according to the report.

Man charged with stealing check

A Gaffney man has been arrested for stealing a payroll check, a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office states.

Detective Darrell Duncan of the sheriff’s office has charged Gregory Scott Turner, 23, of 661 Darwin Road, Gaffney, with 3rd-degree burglary.

Turner is accused of forcing open the office door at Builders Checkpoint, 509 Chesnee Hwy., Gaffney, and stealing the check some time between Friday and Tuesday, the report states.

A Cowpens woman allegedly took only 15 minutes to follow through on her threat to strike another man’s house with her car early Saturday, a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office states.

Ashley Norris, 18, of 143 Warlick Road, Cowpens, is charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.

Norris is accused of causing $20,000 in damage to a home occupied by Brandon Thomas, 19, of 146 Brookstone Lane, police said. Norris and Thomas have a child together, according to the report. The residence is owned by Benjamin Kyle Parker.

Thomas told police Norris called at 5:30 a.m. Saturday and wanted to see him. When he told her not to come to his home Norris became irate and threatened to strike the home with her 1995 Isuzu Rodeo, the report states.

About 15 minutes later, Norris arrived at the home and repeatedly hit the side of the home under Thomas’ bedroom window with her vehicle, police said. She struck the front porch with the Rodeo when Thomas walked out on the steps, according to the report.

Norris was apprehended at 6 a.m. after she fled from the scene, police said.

The home’s front porch and side of the home, foundation, central heating and air system, and yard were damaged during the incident, the report states.
