School Briefs

Graduates magna cum laude

COLUMBIA – Lindsay Christine Brown, daughter of Sharon P. Brown of Gaffney, received a B.A. degree in speech language pathology, magna cum laude, Honors Program, from Columbia College in commencement ceremonies held Saturday, April 30, in Township Auditorium. The commencement address was given by former First Lady Barbara Pierce Bush.

Columbia College grad

Chawana Dewberry graduated from Columbia College on May 1, 2005, with a master’s of education (M.Ed.) in divergent learning.

Ms. Dewberry graduated with a 4.0 GPA. Daughter of Bessie Littlejohn and Charles Dewberry, she is currently teaching ninth grade business education in the Greenville County School District.

Locals graduate from NGC

North Greenville College held its May commencement exercises in Turner Chapel on Thursday, May 5, 2005. Family and friends of 186 graduates celebrated the largest graduating class in the school’s 113-year history.

The following graduates received their degrees: Jennifer Louise Bauer and Jennifer Lynn Ziegler, both of Blacksburg; Katherine Joy Byars, Hannah Gray Childs, Lauren Elizabeth Sexton and Jonathan Wade Weatherford, all of Gaffney.

Citadel graduate

Cadet James Rosemond Cook IV of Gaffney graduated May 7, 2005, from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina.

Cook earned a B.A. in Criminal Justice and is the son of James R. Cook III.

U.S. Congressman J. Gresham Barrett, Citadel Class of 1983, delivered the commencement address to members of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets and military enlisted personnel who completed their undergraduate degrees.

Graduates from Wake Forest

William Carlisle Hamrick Jr. of Gaffney received his Bachelor of Science in Business from Wake Forest University during commencement exercises May 16. Arnold Palmer, one of the most beloved golf legends of all time and a Wake Forest University alumnus, challenged them to make a different in their world.
