Mildred Blackwell Scruggs, 78, formerly of 1446 Goucher School Road, died Saturday June 4, 2005, in Willow Ridge Nursing Center, Rutherfordton, N.C.

A native of Lake City, she was the widow of Thomas E. Scruggs and daughter of the late Danny Floyd and the late Effie Beard Floyd. She was formerly employed by Diacou Knitting Company as a machine operator and was first married to the late John Earl Blackwell.

Mrs. Scruggs loved to write poetry, enjoyed sewing and was an excellent cook. She was a member of Goucher Baptist Church.

Surviving are four sons, Thomas Earl Blackwell, Kenneth Dale Blackwell, both of Gaffney, Paul D. Blackwell and F. Darrell Blackwell, both of Pacolet; a daughter, Janice D. Taylor of Spartanburg; a special niece who was raised in the home, Barbara Owens; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands and parents, Mrs. Scruggs was preceded in death by a half-brother, John Floyd.

Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Goucher Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Raymond J. Long and Norman Gardner. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Blackwell, Brian Blackwell, Jason Blackwell, Keith Yow, Kelly Yow and Brandon Taylor.

Family members are at their respective homes.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association of the Upstate, 110 S. Dean St., Spartanburg, S.C. 29302; or to the American Cancer Society, Cherokee County Unit, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, S.C. 29615.

Minnie F. Moore

Union County native

JONESVILLE – Minnie Lee Floyd Moore, 84, of 408 Norris Road, died Friday, June 3, 2005, at her home.

Widow of George Moore Jr., she was born in Union County, a daughter of the late Jerry and Elizabeth Jeter Floyd. She was a member of Foster Chapel Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Veronica Thomas of the home; a brother, James Monroe Floyd of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Quasay Thomas and Amber Thomas, both of the home.

Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Foster Chapel Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. W.E. Smith. Burial will be in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.

Daniel L. Henderson

Spartanburg County native

SPARTANBURG – Daniel Lee Henderson, 25, of 9085 Fairforest Road, died Saturday, May 28, 2005, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

A native of Spartanburg County, he was the fiance of Tonzia Taylor-Praytor and son of Theresa Howard Henderson.

Also surviving are two sisters, Bridgett Henderson Trejo of Spartanburg and Julie Henderson of Wellford; and maternal grandmother, Maselle Green of Spartanburg.

Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Eggers Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Odell Mosley. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Inman.

Family members are at their respective homes.

Marie H. Massey

Former textile employee

Marie Harris Massey, 83, formerly of Old Georgia Highway, Cowpens, died Sunday, June 5, 2005, at Magnolia Manor, Spartanburg.

A native of Spartanburg, she was the widow of Arthur Daniel Massey and daughter of the late Alfred Harris and the late Ellen Earls Harris. She was a homemaker and former textile employee. She was a loving mother and grandmother and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are two sons, Clyde "Buck" Massey and Jesse Massey, both of Cowpens; a daughter, Patricia Ann Fortner of Cowpens; two sisters, Sara Harris and Nancy Swofford, both of Cowpens; two brothers, Roy Harris and Bob Harris, both of Cowpens; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Massey was preceded in death by four daughters and two sons.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Daniel Morgan Memorial Gardens in Cowpens. Visitation will be tonight from 7-8 at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home.

The family is at the home of Clyde "Buck" Massey, 4733 Old Georgia Highway, Cowpens.

Benjamin A. Shippy

Gaffney native

Benjamin Anthony Shippy, 22, of 7901 Bay Meadow Circle, Apt. 586, Jacksonville, Fla., died Friday, June 3, 2005, in Murry Medical Center, Jacksonville.

A native of Gaffney, he was the son of Diane Howell of Jacksonville and Benny Shippy of Gaffney.

Surviving in addition to his mother and father are a sister, Shonlanda Shippy of Jacksonville; a brother, Derrick Willis of Jacksonville; and grandmothers, Nancy Adams and Fannie Shippy of Gaffney.

Services will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. at Mount Sinai Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. C.A. Wallace. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 3 p.m.

The family is at the home of his grandmother, Nancy Adams, 107 Carver St., Gaffney.
