Heath Hambree and his Post 109 teammates will have an extended layoff before resuming action next Monday.
After playing only three games this season, Post 109 won’t play another one for nearly two weeks because of rainouts and the shuffling of games.
Post 109 was scheduled to play at Union today, at home against Greer on Thursday and at Union again on Friday. But Post 109 Athletic Director Jerry Wallace said the games have been rescheduled to avoid conflicts with this week’s high school graduations.
Wallace said it was easier to reschedule the games since Post 109 already had two open dates this week.
Post 109 has a little more time off after last week’s storms washed out games against Inman and Spartanburg. Both games have yet to be rescheduled.
The schedule is challenging once Post 109 resumes play. Post 109 will travel to Inman on Monday, June 13, before hosting rival Spartanburg on Tuesday.
Instead of worries about getting rusty or losing momentum, Post 109 manager Jeff Osment said he and his players will make the best of the extended layoff.
“I don’t know how we will react because we haven’t had this before,” he said. “But we plan to practice a few days to stay sharp.”
Post 109 (2-1) wasn’t sharp in its last outing in a 7-5 loss at Greer. Gaffney starter Travis Botts was roughed up, allowing six runs in five innings. Post 109 also stranded several baserunners in scoring position.
Osment said he’s not dwelling on the performance.
“We’ll be okay,” he said. “We still have a long ways to go in the season.”
