July 4 events
¦ Buffalo VFD will have a barbecue on July 4th weekend. Deliveries only will be made on Friday, July 1 (call 839-4500 to order). Saturday, July 2, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Monday, July 4, from 10 and until sold out, barbecue will be served at the Buffalo VFD Main Station, 137 Blackwell Road, Blacksburg, off Hwy. 5, and at the Buffalo VFD Sub-Station, 1136 N. Mountain St., Blacksburg, just below Flying J. Eat-in or carry out on Saturday and Monday. Plates are $5 and come with barbecue, barbecue slaw, potato chips and a bun; pints are $10 for barbecue and a 12pack of buns; and $15 for a pint of barbecue, pint of barbecue slaw and a 12-pack of buns. ¦ DMW Volunteer Fire Department will have a barbecue and hash sale on Saturday, July 2, from 7 a.m until it’s all gone. The event will be at the DMW fire station and at Auto Stop 105. A pint of barbecue is $7. Phone-in orders are welcome. Call 489-2194.

¦ The Cherokee County Branch of NAACP will sponsor a Cherokee County Talent Search at Granard Middle School on Friday, Aug. 12, at 7 p.m. First place prize for adults is $150 with second place receiving $75; first place prize in the youth division is $100 while second place youth prize is $50. ¦ The Blacksburg Rotary Club sponsoring Peach Festival’s New Talent Night on Tuesday, July 12, in Fullerton Auditorium. There will be two age categories – those under 15 and those 15 and older. A $100 cash prize will be awarded to the first place winner in each division and a $50 cash prize will be presented to the second place winner. To enter, pick up an application at First National Bank in Blacksburg or the Peach Festival headquarters and Correll Insurance Group in Gaffney. Deadline to enter is 5 p.m. Friday, July 8. There is a $5 entry fee for individual and a $10 entry fee for groups or more. Tickets for New Talent Night are $6 and may be purchased at Peach Festival headquarters or from any Blacksburg Rotary member.

¦ Cherokee County Solid Waste Collection Department, Recycling Center and the Cherokee County Landfill/ Transfer Station will be closed Monday, July 4, in observance of the holiday. The Solid Waste Collection Department and the Recycling Department will pick up all extras on Monday, July 11.
¦ The City of Gaffney Sanitation Department will observe Monday, July 4, as a holiday. The July 4 route will be picked up on Wednesday, July 6. Have carts at curbside by 7 a.m. Wednesday.
¦ The Spartanburg Area Mental Health Center will offer its next parenting classes

¦ The pastor and members of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church invite the public to help them celebrate the church’s 133rd anniversary on Sunday, July 3, at 4 p.m. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Sylvester Golden, pastor of Piedmont Manor and Goldenview Baptist churches.
