Farm Bureau announces recipients

Hiers, Yeargin receive scholarships

The board of directors of the Cherokee County Farm Bureau has announced recipients of the 2005 Cherokee County Farm Bureau Scholarships.

Matthew Chappell Hiers graduated from Gaffney High School with a GPA of 3.837. He has served on the school Senate and was a member of the Beta Club. Also a First Responder with the Grassy Pond Volunteer Fire Department, he is co-owner of Hiers Lawn Care, LLC, and will be attending Clemson University, where he plans to major in horticulture with future plans to operate his own greenhouse and landscape design business.

Stanley Richard Yeargin graduated from GHS with a GPA of 4.458. He was a member of the Beta Club during each of his high school years, has served on the Student Government, Teenage Republicans and Principal’s Advisory Committee. He lettered for the past three years in cross country and track. He is a volunteer fireman and first responder with the Grassy Pond Volunteer Fire Department and will be attending the University of South Carolina, where he plans to major in environmental engineering.
