The YMCA Blue Dolphins swim team
will look to make a big splash in this weekend’s
summer championship at the Rock
Hill Aquatic Center.
The Blue Dolphins will take 30 swimmers to compete in events on July 22-23. The swim team has already won meets over Pickens, Newberry, Greenwood, and Anderson this season.
“Our kids have worked really hard this season,” YMCA Blue Dolphins assistant coach Pete Wright said. “Our veteran swimmers have done a good job all year. Our younger kids are really coming along. It’s just been a fantastic season.”
The summer championship will begin Friday with swimmers ages 6-15 competing in the 100 intermediate event. This will be followed by 100 and 200 medley relay events where swimmers will use different strokes.
The remaining events will be held Saturday. Those events include the 25, 50 and 100 freestyle, 25 and 50 backstroke, 25 and 50 breaststroke, 200 freestyle, 25 and 50 butterfly and freestyle relays.
The Blue Dolphins are coached by Dr. Todd Morgan with the help of Cindy Overton and Wright.
The championship events will be inside the Rock Hill Aquatic Center, a brand new facility with 10 lanes for competition and another eight lanes available for swimming warm-up laps. A digital scoreboard will record the swimming times.
Blue Dolphins girls’ swimmers competing in the championship are Sabrina Bellew, Keri Bloomer, Megan Coggins, Amy Farley, Macie Farley, Leighlan Fowler, Kelly Hall, Caroline Harris, Molly and Sarah Humphries, Brittany Martin, Koryn Matton, Anna Morgan, Carlie Norman, Margaret Ann Queen, Stacy Cici Revels, Kelsey Spurlin, Mallory Taylor and Kayla Vinesett.
The boys’ swimmers are Seth Cole, Brady Ellis, Alan Hall, Matthew Hall, Marshall Harris, Weslee Hoilo, Brooks Mayson, Luke Morgan, Matthew Overton and Steven Wright.
