Ellis to speak

at Gamecock Club

The Cherokee County Gamecock Club will be holding its fall kickoff at Limestone College in the Stephenson Dining Hall on August 11.

Guest speaker will be former Gamecock quarterback and current play-by-play announcer Todd Ellis.

Tickets are $15 and the event will begin at 6 p.m. with dinner included in the price of the ticket. Deadline for purchase of dinner tickets is August 4.

A raffle for two season tickets and other prizes will be held. Raffle entries are $10 and will be sold at the door. An auction of six season tickets and select away game tickets will be held.

Indians begin

practice on Aug. 1

The Gaffney High varsity football team will begin practice Aug. 1 at 8 a.m.

The junior varsity football team will begin practice Aug. 8 at 8 a.m. Ninth grade football team members start practice Aug. 10 at 9 a.m. Football players must have a physical before practice starts, Gaffney High Athletic Director Phil Strickland said.

Physical forms can be picked up at the school’s main office MondayThursday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

One TIme II and 76ers had only the weekend to enjoy their regular season championships.

The playoffs begin today for the summer Cherokee County Youth Basketball league.

In Division II play Friday, One Time II beat the Bulldogs, 45-28 for the championship. One Time II was led by Chase Tate with 15 points while Markeith Hillstock scored 16 points for the Bulldogs.

The 76ers beat the Bearcats, 41-35. L.A. Salters scored 14 points for the 76ers while Robert Butler had 14 points for the Bearcats.

Christian Musselman scored 16 points Thursday as One Time II handed Freightliner its first loss of the season. Other game results were Bulldogs 42, Shady Grove 28; 76ers 52, Kings 44; Bearcats 46, Trailblazers 25; Raiders 19, Tigercats 12; and Jayhawks 22, Lakers 18.

The playoffs will end with an awards day and championship games Friday, July 29 from 6 until 8 p.m.

All-star games will be held at the same times on Tuesday, August 2.
