SOUTH CAROLINA NEWS BRIEFS

Inmate killed

LANCASTER — The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the death of an inmate at the Lancaster County Detention Center.

Four officers were injured in the altercation late Saturday, Lancaster Sheriff Johnny Cauthen said.

Cauthen said one guard was airlifted to a hospital to be treated for a stab wound above his eye. Three other officers also were taken to area hospitals.

Two had been released by Sunday morning.

The inmate’s name was not released and the sheriff’s office and SLED would provide no more details about the incident. An autopsy had been scheduled for Sunday, but the results of that were unavailable.

Two die in crash

GREER — Two Greenville County people died after their motorcycle hit a curb and slammed into a guardrail along state Highway 14 Friday.

Jerome Lee Harris, 43, and Kenyatta Adrian Allen, 21, were pronounced dead at the scene, Deputy Coroner Linda Holbrook said. The victims were not wearing helmets.
