FIRE LAKE AWAITS MUSIC LOVERS
This fountain will be brimming with fire in the evening hours during the 4-day Fire Lake Festival at Sunny Slope Farms which begins Thursday. Ledger photo by TARA JENNINGS With all the required permits and licens-es in hand, Fire Lake Festival organizers are anticipating throngs of music lovers arriving at Sunny Slope Farms tomorrow morning.
The 4-day event begins Thursday. With acts like Lit, Sugar Ray, Puddle of Mudd, Devo and the Marshall Tucker Band, organ-izers are expecting a wide variety of music fans who enjoy bluegrass, jazz, reggae, hip hop and jam bands.
Fans can not only enjoy the music, but also relax on the beach, swim in a lake at the site, enjoy a misting tent, or admire a water fountain that resembles a fountain of fire in the middle of the pond.
“We’re almost ready, like 99 percent ready,” organizer Dave Mackenzie said Tuesday. “We will be ready to welcome our attendees Thursday morning. We’ve been working long hours. But with anything this big, there are always things that pop up at the last minute.”
While organizers tend to those last-minute items, stages are going up and ven-dors are arriving. An operational permit has been obtained through the Cherokee County Department of Building Safety after state Department of Health and Environmental Control officials deter-mined the site’s drinking water was safe.
The public can reach the festival grounds using Exit 90 of Interstate 85. Gates will open at 9 a.m. Thursday.
Tickets will be available at the gate from Thursday through Sunday. A four-day camping pass is $95 while a 4-day non-camping pass is $90. Single day passes are $40 and an RV, camping or trailer pass is $40.
