Shady Grove Baptist Church sets annual homecoming and revival

Rev. C. W. Pettiford, Dr. John H. Walker will be guest evangelists

Rev. C.W. Pettiford Rev. C.W. Pettiford Shady Grove Baptist Church will have its annual homecoming service on Sunday, Aug. 21, at 4 p.m. Revival services will begin Monday, Aug. 22, and continue through Thursday, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m.

The Rev. C. W. Pettiford, pastor of Rogers Grove Baptist Church International, Durham, N.C., along with his congregation will lead the Sunday afternoon service. Dr. John H. Walker, pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church, Charlotte, will be the evangelist Mon-day through Thurs-day.

Pettiford has been the senior pastor of Rogers Grove Church Internation-al since 1986. As a result of his min-istry, he has planted churches both nationally and abroad. He is a member of North Carolina Pastor’s Consortium Advisory Board, Evangelism Committee Secre-tary, North Carolina General Baptist State Con-vention, and Visionary of Durham Pastor’s Alliance.

Dr. John H. Walker Dr. John H. Walker In 1994, he received an honorary doctorate degree from the Gospel Ministry Outreach The-ological Institute of Houston, Texas, a Liberal Arts degree from Shaw University, Raleigh, N.C., and a Diploma of Theology from Shaw University, Raleigh, N.C.

Rev. Pettiford is married to Shirley L. Petti-ford, a gifted teacher and preacher in her own right.

Dr. Walker will be the evangelist for the week. Burdened by the absence of black men in church and vanishing black males in society, Dr. Walker was lead by the Holy Spirit to research, document and expound on the black male of today, and wrote a book titled, "The Role of the Church in The Reclaiming of the Black Male." He completed a second book, "A Fresh Look at the New Testament Deacon," and very recently published his third book, "Pearls in the Pew," a guide for equipping the Laity for Christ-ian leadership.

Dr. Walker is called upon frequently to devel-op seminars and instruct convention courses and to lecture. He is a visionary leader who has been commissioned to make a difference. He is also a national instructor for the National Bap-tist Congress of Christian Education Conven-tion.

Dr. Walker earned the Master of Divinity degree from Shaw Divinity School, Raleigh, and a B.A. degree from Shaw University, graduating magna cum laude. Dr. Walker was valedictorian of his graduating class at Greensboro Bible College, receiving a theolo-gy degree and Bible degree. He earned a Doc-tor of Ministry from Gordon Conwell Theolog-ical Seminary in Christian Leader-ship and is a Bap-tist Seminary Extension Program certified instructor and adjunct profes-sor at Shaw Univer-sity Cape Center, Kannapolis. Dr. Walker serves on the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools Equity Committee and is a member of the Cen-tral Carolina Col-lective Banking Group, a group of selective banks that bring empowerment through partnership to churches and communi-ties.

Dr. Walker is married to the former Rosie Knight and they have two children Janetta Olivia and John II, and a grandson, Johnathan Lamar.
