A Gaffney woman claims a South Carolina Highway Patrolman sexually assaulted her last week.

The woman claims the trooper sexually assaulted her near the Peachoid water tower on Peachoid Road in Gaffney at approximately 2 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3.

She filed the complaint with Detective Capt. Mike Fowlkes of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. The South Carolina Law Enforce-ment Division (SLED) is investigating the allegation.

The name of the trooper accused of sexually assault-ing the woman has not been released.

“A South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper has been put on administrative duties pending the outcome of the SLED investigation,” said Sid Gaulden, spokesman for the South Carolina Department of Public Safety. “Things don’t add up, that’s why we’re not naming the trooper. If there’s something there, you’ll get his name.”

According to the report filed at the sheriff’s office, the woman claims her hus-band hit and choked her dur-ing a domestic altercation at their home on River Drive in Gaffney.

The report states she left the home and went to the Kangaroo truck stop on Highway 18.

While she was at the Kan-garoo, a trooper allegedly offered her assistance. She claims he sexually assaulted her at or near “the Peach” on Peachoid Road, the report states.

“At the request of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, we are looking into allegations involving a public official,” said Lt. Mike Brown of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. “As part of SLED policy, we do

not name suspects.”

No one has been charged.
