Poker run to benefit children of bike shop murder victims As time passes since the unsolved murder of four peo-ple at the Superbike Motor-sports Shop in Chesnee, Robin Lucas experiences things she is supposed to be sharing with her late husband. She is preparing for her eld-est son Aaron’s first day of school. And she is worrying about 5-year-old Aaron’s and 3-year-old Zach’s college edu-cation costs. She is also dealing with dif-ficult questions from her chil-dren about the death of their father. Questions that haven’t even been answered for her. “We have our ups and downs,” Lucas said. “We want to know answers. I keep think-ing, if anybody knows any-thing, have they even thought about coming forward.” Robin’s husband, Brian Lucas, a Gaffney native and service manager at the Super Bike Motor Sports Shop, was killed Nov. 6, 2003, along with shop owner Scott Ponder, 30, Ponder’s mother Beverly Elaine Guy, 52, of Spartanburg and mechanic Chris Sherbert, 26, of Boiling Springs. In memory of those who were killed, Robin and Pon-der’s wife, Melissa, are hold-ing a poker run Saturday. Pro-ceeds from the event will ben-efit the Lucas children and Ponder’s 1-year-old son Scott. “We’re hoping to keep the memory of Scott and Brian alive, that’s something we hope our kids will continue to do in the future,” she said. “It’s to raise funds for our children’s’ education and it’s to raise awareness. It’s not that it’s disappeared out of people’s minds, but it’s been pushed to the back.” The poker run begins and ends at the Superbike Motor-sports Shop at 6842 Parris Bridge Road, Chesnee, with the first bike out at 10 a.m. The last bike will go out at noon. All riders are expected to return by 3 p.m. Partici-pants will vie for $700 for the best poker hand, $300 for the second-best hand and $100 for the worst hand. The entry fee is $20 plus $10 for a passenger. An extra hand costs $10. There will be live music by Ducey and a special perform-ance by Jay Daniel, the 2005 2nd place 125 C Class Unlimit-ed Amateur Dirt Track racer. There will also be raffles and 50/50 drawings, a silent auc-tion and food. For more information call Lucas at 488-2437, 490-1132, or 948-7497. |
