Wayne B. Roark

Retired from Stouffer's

Wayne B. Roark, 65, of 325 Vernon St., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Aug. 8, 2005, at his resi-dence.

A native of Cherokee County, he was the hus-band of Vicki Seigler Roark and son of the late Thomas F. and Madge Culbertson Roark. He was a retired Transportation Direc-tor for Stouffer's and was a member of Limestone Street United Methodist Church. Mr. Roark served for six years in the National Guard.

Mr. Roark was a graduate of Blacksburg High School and Clemson University. He was a former member of the Lions Club and was Chairman of the Finance Committee at Limestone Street United Methodist Church, where he also served as a Sunday School teacher and member of the Men's Club.

Also surviving are a son, Russell Wayne Roark and his wife, Dawn, of Clemson; a daughter, Lynn Spurlin and her husband, Bruce, of Gaffney; two stepsons, Jay George of Gaffney and David George and his wife, Suzy, of Galax, Va.; a stepdaughter, Cathy George Carr and her husband, Tommy, of Concord, N.C.; a sister, Linda Roark Coleman and her husband, George, of Greenwood; a sis-terin-law, Carolyn Roark of Blacksburg; 12 grandchil-dren, Kelsey Spurlin, Bryce Spurlin, Caroline Roark, Han-nah Roark, Dusty George, Johnny George, Jamie George, Phillip George, Ellis George, Georgia Carr, Rea-gan Carr and Thomas Carr.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Roark was preceded in death by his first wife, Jackie Seigler Roark; and his broth-er, Thomas Roark Jr.

Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Limestone Street United Methodist Church, conducted by the Revs. Ron Singleton and Steve Morgan. Interment will be in Freder-ick Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memori-als may be made to Lime-stone Street United Methodist Church, 910 N. Limestone St., Gaffney, S.C. 29340.

The family will be at the residence.

Lyles W. Sanders

GHS, Clemson graduate

Lyles W. (Wit) Sanders of Dunwoody, Ga., died Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, at Portsbridge Hospice.

Born July 31, 1926, in Lan-drum, South Carolina, he was the son of the late David E.B. Sanders Sr. and Eva Jones Sanders. He was a graduate of Gaffney High School and Clemson University.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Carter Sanders; a son, Tommy Jacobs and his wife, Debbie, with grandson, Jere-my Jacobs, granddaughter, Kelly Evans, and two great-grandchildren; brother, David Sanders; and sisters Carolyn Sanders Coats, his twin sister, Wilma Sanders Barton, and Gwendolyn Sanders Gosnell.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 20, at 3 p.m. at the Yaarab Shrine Tem-ple on Ponce de Leon Avenue in Atlanta, Ga.

Grew up in Gaffney

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Catherine A. Dallas passed away Friday, Aug. 5, 2005.

Mrs. Dallas formerly resided in Greenville, S.C., and grew up in Gaffney.

She is survived by her son, Furman H. Dallas III; a granddaughter, Catherine M. Dallas; a grandson, Christo-pher H. Dallas; a sister, Mar-garet E. Greco; a brother, Thomas E. Capps; several stepchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thurs-day, Aug, 11, at Good Shep-herd Memorial Park.

Baby Jadyn T. Evans

Baby Jadyn Tatianna Evans, age 9 months, of 473 Lockhart Lane, Apt. B-6, died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2005, at 9:09 a.m. in Green-ville Memor-ial Hospital.

Daughter of Desaraee M. Shippy of Gaffney and Bryan Q. Evans of Gaffney, she was born on Oct. 11, 2004.

Surviving in addition to her parents are one sister, Kamara Evans of Cowpens; grandmoth-ers, Tracey Shippy and Donna Ross of Gaffney; grandfathers, Craig Littlejohn and Tim Smith of Gaffney; great-grandmothers, Mary Jo Allen and Linnie Evans of Gaffney.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church with Dr. A.L. Brackett, Rev. Jake Boyce, Rev. Debra Lindsay and Dr. Michael Bridges offi-ciating. Interment was in Oak-land Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Tyson Petty, Timothy Horton, Roy Evans, Donald Petty Jr., Alex Evans and Chandler Petty.

Flower bearers were Cha-sity Houge, Courtney Houge, Matgo Petty, Timinisha Hor-ton and Destiny Baxter.

The family is at the home of her great-grandmother, Mary Jo Allen, 114 O'Sage Circle, Gaffney.

Harry D. Whitaker

U.S. Army veteran

Harry D. "Red" Whitaker, 53, of Greensboro, N.C., formerly of Gaffney, died Wednes-day, Aug. 3, 2005, at 9:15 p.m. at the V.A. Hospital in Durham.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and son of the late Algie Whitaker and the late Daisy Hawkins

Whitaker. He was born

in Enfield, N.C., and was formerly married to Joyce Lipscomb Whitaker.

Surviving are three sons, Michael Whitaker, Sean Whitaker and Gerald Whitaker of Gaffney; two daughters, Taneisha Whitaker and Shiree Whitaker of Gaffney; another daughter, Miriam Whitaker of Raleigh; two other sons, Gary Whitaker of Houston, Texas, and Harry Whitaker of Cali-fornia; two brothers, James Whitaker of Fayetteville and Algie Whitaker Jr. of Enfield; a sister, Linda Cunningham of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and eight grandchildren.

William G. Murphy

Worked in construction

William Garland Murphy, 48, of 104 Washington Ave., died Monday, Aug. 8, 2005, in Gaffney

A native of Vienna, Va., he was the husband of Alvenia Owensby Murphy and son of the late John Murphy and the late Louise Murphy. He was a construction employee and of the Baptist faith.

Also surviving are a son, Jeremy Murphy of Lincolnton, N.C.; a daughter, Billie Jean Lankford of Gaffney; four stepdaughters, Kelly Davis of Blacksburg, Martha Owensby, Donna Mullinax, both of Gaffney, and Kimberly Barber of Shelby; a brother, Gary Murphy of Gaffney; a sister, Rita Benton of Walhalla; and 13 grandchildren.

Services will be held Thurs-day at 4 p.m. at ShufordHatcher Funeral Home Downtown Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Calvin Hall.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6-8 at the downtown funeral home and at other times they will be at the residence.

Margaret E. Petty

SHELBY – Services for Margaret Eartha Petty, 53, of 1713 Wendover Drive, will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Green Bethel Baptist Church, Boiling Springs, N.C., conduct-ed by the Revs. Wade Wallace, Michael Gultatte and Robert E. Coleman. The family will receive friends at the church at 2:30 p.m. Body will be placed in the church at noon.

Robert Mahogany

Retired mechanic

Robert Mahogany, 63, of 123 Camellia Circle, died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, in Upstate Caroli-na Medical Center.

Born Feb. 1, 1942, in Phoenix City, Ala., he was a son of the late Willie Bud Wright and the late Velma Hill. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Bap-tist Church in Phoenix City and a retired mechanic for Overnite Trucking Co.

Surviving are seven daugh-ters, Chantay Mahogany, Fele-cia Mahogany Taylor of Chev-erly, Md., Ingrid Mahogany of Largo, Md., Linda Mahogany of Oxon Hill, Md., LaTarsha Mahogany, Brandi Mahogany and Ebany Craige of Washing-ton, D.C.; a sister, Willie Mae Wilson of Phoenix City; four brothers, Frank Mahogany of Washington, D.C., Billy Mahogany, Praither Mahogany and Willie James Mahogany of Phoenix City; six grandsons; one granddaughter; and one geat-granddaughter.

Services will be Saturday at noon at Foster Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until noon at the funeral home.
