BRIEFS Cherokee Speedway race results Rice has surgery GHS football tickets USC wide receiver and former Gaffney High standout Sidney Rice underwent successful sur-gery on his left little finger on Monday morning. A small screw was inserted in his finger. “I think he’ll be able to run (Tuesday),” South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said. “But we’ll try to keep it from getting hit for four or five days and he should be fine.” Gaffney High School reserved season football tickets are on sale through Thursday, August 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to those persons who were season ticket holders last year. Those ticket holders will have first priority in purchasing the 2005 reserved tick-ets during this week. Afterwards, beginning Monday, August 15 through Friday, August 19 tickets will go on sale to the general public. Tickets may be purchased that week from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., all five days. There are five home games this season and the reserved ticket price will be $6 per game. The total price for each set of season tickets is $30. Gates open 5 p.m. Race time, 8 p.m. The Cherokee County Gamecock Club will be holding its Fall Kickoff Thursday, August 11, at 6 p.m. at Stephenson dining hall on the Limestone College campus. A few dinner tickets are left for $15. Speaker-only tickets will be sold at the door for $5 as long as they last. A raffle for 2 season tickets will be held. Raffle entries are $10 and will be sold at the door. There will also be an auction for 6 season tickets (2, 2 and 2) and an auction for Georgia, Auburn and Tennessee away game tickets will be held. There is also a parking pass and 2 elevator passes for auc-tion. There will also be drawings for door prizes. Proceeds made from the club go to scholarships for Cherokee County students who will attend or already attend the University of South Carolina or one of its branches.
