Cherokee County schools announce orientation schedules
.Orientation for Blacksburg area schools has been scheduled as follows: Blacksburg Primary, Monday, Aug. 15 5-7 p.m.; Blacksburg Elementary, Friday, Aug. 19, “New Parent Orientation Meeting,” 3:30 p.m.; Blacksburg Middle School, Thursday, Aug. 18, 4:30-6 p.m.; Blacksburg High School, Thursday, Aug. 18, 6-7 p.m.; freshmen only.
.Blacksburg High School will have class schedules available for students to pick up on the following days and times:
August 15 11th and 12th grade students 8:30-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m.
August 16 10th grade 8:30-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m.
August 18 Ninth grade 6 p.m.
Yearbook orders and deposits will be taken at this time. Students can pay their $20 instructional fees. School photos will be taken for the yearbook on Aug. 26.
.B.D. Lee Elementary will hold orientation for kindergarten and new students on Thursday, Aug. 18 at 6 p.m. Class rolls will be posted the same day.
A drop-in room visitation will be held for all students on Friday, Aug. 18 from 2-3 p.m.
Supplies needed for school include pencils, book bag (no rolling bookbags) and a belt for pants.
.Goucher Elementary will hold an open house on Thursday, Aug. 18 from 4-6 p.m.
.Gaffney High School sophomores can pick up their schedules on August 15. Ninth graders can register on Aug. 16. Make-up Registration (all students) is also August 16. Registration on all three days is from 8:30 a.m.-noon & 1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m.
Please note that all students must pay a $20 instructional fee at the time that schedules are picked up.
The school will hold a freshman orientation August 18 in the gym from 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Parents and guardians are invited to attend this orientation session with their students. Afterwards, students will enjoy refreshments in the cafeteria and be allowed to tour the building and walk through their class schedule at their convenience with their guests and meet their instructors. IDs will not be made at the evening orientation.
All students attending Gaffney High School for the 2005-2006 school year will be required to have an ID card in their possession at all times. IDs will be made during registration. Students must present a schedule to have the ID made. Failure to have and present an ID when requested to do so by any staff member will result in 1 day OSS for each incident after 2 temporaries have been issued.
.Corinth Elementary will hold orientation for kindergarten students on Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 5:30 p.m. The school will hold orientation for first and second grade students on Thursday, August 18 at 5:30 p.m. Orientation will be held at 6:30 p.m. for students in third through fifth grades.
.Grassy Pond Elementary will hold open house for students on Aug. 18 from 5-7 p.m.
.Granard Middle School students will pay fees and pick up their schedules on August 16. 7th and 8th grade students may pay their fees and pick up their schedules from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Sixth grade students and their parents will have orientation beginning at 6 p.m. in the school’s auditorium. After a brief question and answer period, students will go to their advisory teacher’s classroom to pay fees and receive their schedules.
Registration fees are as follows:
Students who pay regular lunch price $10
Students who pay reduced lunch price $6
Students who eat free lunch No Charge
Note: All students will receive a school supply bag at registration.
.Back to School events for Ewing Middle students are as follows:
Sixth grade orientation August 11 5-6:30 p.m.
Seventh grade Back to School Night August 15 5:006:30 p.m.
Eighth grade Back to School Night August 16 5:00-6:30 p.m.
The events will begin at 5:00. Students will receive their schedules and meet their teachers. The $10 activity fee will be collected at this time and students will receive their package of school supplies. There will also be an opportunity for students to visit with friends at the end of this evening’s session. The school canteen will be selling candy and soft drinks.
.Draytonville Elementary School will host a Back to School drop-in on Thursday, August 18 from 4-6 p.m. All students are invited to come meet their teachers. Parents may pay instruction fees ($5.00) and lunch money at this time.
.Limestone-Central Elementary will hold an open house for all grades on Aug. 18 from 5-7 p.m.
.Northwest Elementary will hold orientation Thursday, Aug. 18 at the following times:
Kindergarten 4:30-6 p.m. Second grade 5 p.m. Third grade 5:30 p.m. Fifth grade 6 p.m.
Fourth grade 6:30 p.m.
The school will have an orientation for first grade students on August 19 from 2-3 p.m.
.Cherokee County schools provide free transportation for all students traveling between their home high school and Cherokee Technology Center. All students are encouraged to ride the bus.
However, there are provisions for tenth through twelfth grade students to travel in private vehicles between schools. Students in ninth grade homerooms are required to travel by bus. All students driving/riding to the Technology Center are required to have a permission signed by a parent/guardian. Parents and guardians must come to the Technology Center in person to sign forms.
Permission forms must be renewed annually. Students without permission forms and driving permits may not drive or ride in private vehicles.
Cherokee Technology Center will make Driving/Riding IDs beginning August 10 from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the main office each day until August 19. The cost of a Driving/ Riding ID will be $5 prior to the opening of school. Any Driving/Riding ID that is obtained after August 19 will cost $6. students are reminded that they may not drive/ride in a private vehicle until they have obtained a Driving/Riding ID.
