OBITUARIES
Johnny G. McCluney Sr.

BLACKSBURG – Johnny G. McCluney Sr., 56, of 130 Moda Road, husband of the Rev. Nettie Smith McCluney, was called home on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005, at 3:45 a.m. at his residence.
Son of the Rev. Timothy H. McCluney Sr. and the late Annie Mae McCluney, he was a native of Cherokee County and a 1968 graduate of Granard High School. He was a member of Youngs Grove Baptist Church and served as a member of the Adult Choir and the Brotherhood. He was employed by The Timken Company.
Also surviving are three sons, the Rev. Johnny G. McCluney Jr. and Justin McCluney of Gaffney and Jason McCluney of Shelby; a nephew reared as a son, Frederick Degree; five sisters, Bessie Degree, Arvite Chambers, Gladys McCluney, Sandy McCluney and Debra Gill of Gaffney; an adopted sister, Pam Bristal of Shelby; two brothers, Timothy Howard McCluney Jr. of Gainesville, Fla., and Warren McCluney of Jacksonville, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
Services will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Youngs Grove Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Larry J. Brooks and the Revs. Michael Hull, Ruby Miller and George Kirby. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.

Thelma B. Coggins
Homemaker
Thelma Burns Coggins, 96, formerly of 605 E. Montgomery St., died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005, at St. Francis Women's and Family Hospital, Greenville.
A native of Gramling, S.C. she was the widow of William George Coggins and daughter of the late William Grant Burns and the late Laura Ann Mahaffey Burns. She was a homemaker and member of Gramling Methodist Church.
Surviving are a son, George Coggins and wife, Diane, of Gaffney; two daughters, Ann C. Wilson Bishop and husband, Frank, of Greenville and Jane C. Robinson and husband, Jimmy, of Dacusville, S.C.; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Frederick Memorial Gardens, conducted by Dr. Clyde Thomas. The family will receive friends at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home at Frederick Memorial Gardens from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service.

James H. Collins
Charlotte native
SHARON – James Henry Collins, 80, formerly of 3936 Woodlawn St., died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2005, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center. A native of Charlotte, N.C.,
he was the son of the
late James Aaron
Collins and the late Carrie Leona Allen Collins. He operated the cash register for a service station, was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church and a veteran.
Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Collins was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Collins Clark.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery in Sharon, conducted by J. Caleb Clark. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. in the Sharon United Methodist Church Family Life Center.
The family is at the home of Robert S. Clark, 486 Old Buffalo Church Road, Blacksburg.

Bobby Barnes
Retired from Duke Power
MOORESBORO, N.C. – Bobby "Poss" Barnes, 73, of 2502 McCraw Road, died Friday, Aug. 19, 2005, in Fair Haven Nursing Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Ben and Lily Foster Barnes. He was retired from Duke Power Company.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Barnes Phillips.
Surviving are his wife, Reba Martin Barnes of the home, a daughter, Barbara Barnes Golden and husband, Lynn Golden, of Charleston and Lisa Barnes Moore of Mooresboro; a son-in-law, Dennis Phillips; brothers, Garmon Barnes and Gill Barnes, both of Cliffside; sisters, Rosa Lee Goforth and Joyce Norman, both of Cliffside; grandchildren, Tim Phillips, Tyler Moore, Drake Moore, Grayson Golden and Willis Golden; and a great-grandson, Caleb Phillips.
Graveside services were held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Ernie Cole.

Hansel G. Harry
Retired teacher
CORNELIUS, N.C. – Hansel Guest Harry, 84, another one of "the Great Generation," died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005, in Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Harry was born on Feb. 1, 1921, in Gaffney, a daughter of the late Robert Guest and Ouida Lipscomb Guest. She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, a graduate of Limestone College and also studied at Columbia University. She taught for 30 years at W. R. Odell, J.M. Alexander Junior High and Ranson Junior High.
Mrs. Harry touched and inspired the lives of all who knew her with her spirit, generosity, imagination and zest for life. She was a woman with a plan; her generous and witty spirit made her the perfect matriarch for a large and active extended family. Her sense of humor and impulsive nature brought joy and smiles to all who knew her.
Services were conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at Bethel Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Rob Hinman and J. E. Wayland Jr. officiating.
Survivors are her sons, Dr. Robert Harry and wife, Ann, of Fredericksburg, Va., Ben Harry and wife, Jan, of Austin, Texas, and George Harry and wife, Gina, of Cary, N.C.; a daughter, Donna H. Cochrane and husband, Jim, of Buford, Ga.; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Harry was preceded in death by her loving husband, Don Harry.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her caretakers at the Genesis and particularly a heartfelt thanks to Ida Rowland and June Cash for their loving care.

COWPENS – Sarah Ann Littlejohn, 38, of Cannons Campground Road, answered the Master's call on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005, at 8:30 p.m. in Mary Black Memorial Hospital.
A native of Gaffney, she was the wife of Robert Littlejohn and daughter of the late Broadus Byers and the late Corrie Bell Shippy Byers. She was a graduate of Gaffney High School and was last employed by Lockhart Lane Assisted Living.
Also surviving are two daughters, Moncia L. Burris and Cirria C. Littlejohn of Gaffney; a son, Maurice C. Burris Jr. of Gaffney; five sisters, Aquilla Byers, Priscillie Byers, Pauline Byers Wilkie, Georgia Lynn Manning and Brossie Ann Shippy, all of Gaffney; and Joe Lewis Byers, Jay Ervin Byers, Terry Wayne Byers, Nina Faye Littlejohn and Kevin Dean Byers who were reared in the home as her sisters and brothers; and three grandchildren.
The family is at the home of her sister, Pauline Wilkie, 105 O'Sage Dr., Gaffney.
