Youngsters from local churches put on their best dance moves at the opening ice breaker for Sunday’s See You At The Pole prayer rally at Broad River Electric Auditorium. Teenagers rushed the stage and jumped around in excitement inside the Broad River Electric auditorium Sunday evening whenever the Christian band Reinvented played one of its uptempo tunes.

The rock music was one of several levels the Standing Rock Solid Youth Ministers Association aimed at the audience for its opening See You At The Pole prayer rally. The network of local youth ministers from different denominations used music, interpretive dance, multimedia presentations and scripture in an effort to focus 600 Cherokee County middle and high school students on taking a stand for God.

Local students can gather at their schools Wednesday for a See You At The Pole prayer event from 7 until 7:30 a.m. Students will lead their classmates in praying for world leaders, their schools, families and community concerns.

See You At The Pole is a national studentled prayer movement that started in 1990 with one youth group meeting during a weekend retreat in the Fort Worth suburb of Burleson, Texas. It has since grown into a prayer movement involving more than 2 million teenagers.

“The neat thing about See You At The Pole is students put it together and lead each other in prayers,” First Baptist Church Youth Minister Mark Hazle said. “We hope this week’s rallies will get our youth pumped up and excited about participating in See You At The Pole.”

Reinvented singer Addison Hamrick and his group of Gaffney college students led the crowd in a high-energy evening of praise and worship songs. The band mixed saxophone, violin and acoustic guitar with more traditional instruments.

A large projector screen flashed images of students from across the country who are involved in See You At The Pole events while Reinvented played. First Baptist Church senior youth group members performed an interpretive dance number. A humorous skit became a serious message about the importance of telling friends about God.

Clemson student Matt Davidson then delivered the closing message, urging the teenagers to be active Christian participants.

The Standing Rock Solid Youth Ministers Association is sponsoring See You At The Pole rallies nightly Sept. 19-21 at 6:30 p.m. at Broad River Electric Auditorium.
