Classic car show is set for Sept. 24

The Cherokee Historical and Preservation Society is sponsoring its annual antique and collectible car, truck and motorcycle show Saturday Sept. 24, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

A $1 donation for admission will be collected at the gate with proceeds going to help open the Cherokee County History and Arts Museum at 301 S. Johnson St.

Owners of antique and classic vehicles can enter the show and share their restored treasures with the public. Advance registration fee is $10 per vehicle. Registration is $15 per vehicle on day of the show. Owners can register on show day from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Forty-six trophies will be presented, including “Best in Show” and a new award, “Spectators Choice,” which will give visitors the opportunity to vote for their favorite classic vehicle. Trophies will be awarded at 3:30 p.m.

James “RoHo” Withrow will serve as the master of ceremonies and provide golden oldies music. Bill Lambright and the Willie T’s Dixie Smokers team will be on hand selling their awardwinning barbecue throughout the day.

The Unlimited Power Dance Studio Clogging Team, under the direction of Simone Pace, will present a show at 3 p.m. The girls, ranging in age from six to 12, have been selected to attend a national competition in Reno, Nev., in April. The team is donating their time to CHAPS, however, they will accept donations toward the $7,000 needed for the trip.

Organizers of the event invite everyone to come spend the day under the shade trees on the front lawn of the History Museum and enjoy the sights and sounds that will bring back fond memories of the past.

To register in advance or for more information contact CHAPS at 489-3988.

In case of inclement weather, the show will be held Saturday, Oct. 1.
