Gaffney High student Jessica Longshore drew the cover for a new cookbook fundraiser sponsored by the school’s Parent-Teacher Organization. The new Gaffney High School cookbook is a feast for the eyes and helps you prepare a feast for the stomach.

The school’s Parent-Teacher Organization has compiled 1,100 recipes from students, teachers and administrators into a cookbook thick enough to be a novel. The cookbook is being sold for $10 with the proceeds used for school projects.

There are recipes for Maryland Lady Crab Cakes, oysters, baked chicken, and pork chops. For the hunting crowd, the cookbook includes recipes for preparing wild game such as venison, squirrel and rabbit.

There are drink recipes such as “Paradise Island,” lemonade, fruit juice recipes, iced cappuccino and even snow day cocoa.

The many recipes in the cookbook were typed by Cherokee Technology Center students enrolled in the graphic arts class.

Gaffney High PTO President Carol Gallman said she hopes the cookbook will be a keepsake that students and residents can enjoy for many years.

“This has been a good collaborative effort between Gaffney High School and the Cherokee Technology Center,” Gallman said. “We were overwhelmed with the response to our request for recipes for the cookbook.”

Several retired Gaffney High teachers joined current students in contributing recipes for the cookbook’s sections on appetizers, beverages, bread, main entrees, desserts, vegetables, side dishes and desserts. Principal Dr. Quincie Moore contributed a recipe for poppy seed chicken.

The cookbooks arrived at the school two weeks ago. A limited quantity are available.

The cookbooks will be on sale at today’s Gaffney High open house from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

The cookbooks can also be purchased at the next PTO meeting, which is scheduled for Oct. 3 at 5:30 p.m. and during selected occasions throughout the school year. Copies can also be ordered by calling the Gaffney High office at 9023600.
