Leadership development workshop in Greenville

Oct. 20 event focuses on regionalism

GREENVILLE – In collaboration with the Leadership Development division of the Greater Greenville Chamber of Commerce, the University of South Carolina Upstate will host a Leadership Development Issues Series titled Upstate Together: Grow by Choice or Chance on Thursday, Oct. 20, from 4-6:45 p.m. at Marriott Greenville, located at One Parkway East.

This unprecedented opportunity to learn about the impact of regional growth in the Upstate will include a panel presentation, a computerized audience survey and a presentation of values. The program will be followed by a short reception. The event was developed with input from all 10 counties in Upstate South Carolina – Abbeville, Anderson, Cherokee, Greenville, Greenwood, Laurens, Oconee, Pickens, Spartanburg and Union.

Featured speakers include Dr. Barry Nocks of Clemson University's Center for Community Growth and Change and Gianni Longo, principal with ACP Visioning and Planning. The panel will include representatives from the Appalachian Council of Governments, Upstate Alliance, Upstate Chambers of Commerce Coalition and Upstate Forever.

Dr. Nocks is the associate dean for research and outreach for the College of Architecture, Arts, and Humanities, and professor of the City and Regional Planning Program at Clemson University. He also serves as interim director of the Center for Community Growth and Change at Clemson.

Nocks directed the Reedy River Master Plan project for the center. He has been at Clemson University for 24 years.
