CAMPOBELLO — The pilot of an ultralight plane has been injured after the aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff, authorities say.

Woman charged

in slaying

SPARTANBURG — A 29year-old woman has been charged with killing her grandfather, Spartanburg County deputies say.

Latrancia Watise McCollum was arrested early Sunday for murder and several fraudulent check charges from 2002, deputies said.

McCollum’s grandfather, 80year-old George Albert Scott, was found dead in his home Saturday afternoon from a gunshot to the head, said Robin Forrest, chief investigator with the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office.

Scott’s daughter, Jackie, wasn’t aware of any problems between McCollum and Scott, saying the two were close enough that McCollum would run errands for her grandfather. Woman sentenced

ANDERSON — A Powdersville woman has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to homicide by child abuse.

Amanda Worthy, 22, admitted Thursday that she had been drinking on July 13, 2004, when her 3-week-old daughter, Olivia Jane Worthy, began crying.

Worthy said she put a pacifier in her daughter’s mouth.

An autopsy report showed the child had suffocated as a result of improper use of the pacifier and an autopsy showed the baby had mouth and nose injuries.

Worthy’s husband, Joshua, was charged with neglect in the case.

COLUMBIA — Police have charged a man with a third shooting death in Columbia.

Oliver also has been charged with killing Felder’s boyfriend George Lee Batie, 54, and Batie’s acquaintance, Devin Lee Miller, 27, of Irmo.

He also was charged with three counts of armed robbery, kidnapping and first-degree burglary in the case.
