Community invited to attend reception for local folk artist

Cherokee Artists and Craftsmen are sponsoring an exhibit by one of Gaffney's renowned folk artists, Charles Farriss, at the Gaffney Visitor's Center.

Farriss is known throughout the county for his colorful and fanciful renderings of historical sites, buildings and people connected with the City of Gaffney, the Town of Blacksburg and Cherokee County.

The exhibit, consisting of over 35 original works, is on display at the Gaffney Visitor's Center at 300 N. Limestone St. through Wednesday, Oct. 19. The exhibit can be seen from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily and by appointment on Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons.

The community is invited to attend a drop-in reception in honor of Farris on 'Thursday, Sept. 29, from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Visitor's Center. Farriss is a descendent of Gaffney's founding father, Michael Gaffney, and of the late Colonel Sam Jefferies of Gaffney.

Local educators and persons interested in history are especially invited to make arrangements for individual and group visits to view the exhibit and meet the artist.

Contact the Gaffney Visitor's Center, 497-6244, for more information, to make an appointment for a weekend visit or to make arrangements for a school class to view the exhibit and meet the artist.
