New city park plan is ready to be unveiled...almost

By LARRY HILLIARD Ledger Staff Writer larry@gaffneyledger.com

Gaffney City Council should learn in early November just how much it’s going to cost to upgrade the city’s recreation offerings.

Gaffney Administrator James Taylor said representatives from the landscape architectural firm of Seamon, Whiteside & Associates are slated to appear at council’s Nov. 7 meeting to present a cost analysis and layout of a proposed 17-acre park near the downtown area and a park between the new city hall and fire department.

“It will be presented for council’s approval,” he said.

In early August, council voted unanimously to hire the Charleston-based landscape architectural firm to design master plans for the park sites.

The architectural firm is also expected to develop plans for McCluney park, a gateway sign at Interchange 92, directional signs to the city’s three historic districts and a yet-tobe determined site for a soccer complex.

The plans, which could cost the city as much as $79,000, include site inventory, conceptual plans and cost estimate and a master color plan.

The city will fund the park projects with the Hospitality Tax — a tax added to prepared food.
