Wicht completes deployment

Navy Lt. Elizabeth A. Wicht, daughter of Ellen G. Wicht of Meadowview, Va. and Marion C. Wicht of Gaffney, and her fellow shipmates completed Maritime Security Operations (MSO) while on a scheduled deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism while assigned to the guided-missile destroyer USS Gonzalez homeported in Norfolk, Va.

Marines and Sailors of the USS Kearsarge Expeditionary Strike Group conducted MSO in the Persian Gulf, Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Gulf of Oman. MSO sets the conditions for security and stability in the maritime environment, as well as complements the counterterrorism and security efforts of regional nations. MSO denies international terrorists use of the maritime environment as a venue for attack or to transport personnel, weapons or other materials.

Wicht is a 1995 graduate of Patrick Henry High School of Glade Spring, Va., and joined the Navy in May 1999. She is a 1999 graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, Va., with a B.A. degree.
