Sue D. Childers

Retired bookkeeper

Sue D. Childers, 71, of 1107 S. Petty St., went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.

A native of Cherokee County, she was the wife of Robert Earl Childers Sr. and daughter of the late Frank A. Denton and Dovie Barnette Denton. She was a retired bookkeeper with the Cherokee County Department of Social Services and was a member of First Baptist Church.

Also surviving are two sons, Robert Earl Childers Jr. of the home and Scott C. Childers and wife, Tracy K., of Little River, S.C.; one brother, Lamar Denton of Blacksburg; one sister, Marie D. Kirby of Gaffney; and two grandchildren, Chase Childers and Cody Childers of Little River.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Childers was preceded in death by three brothers, Broughton Denton, Broadus Denton and Ray Denton; and a sister, Elizabeth Conner.

There will be a private graveside service for Mrs. Childers at Oakland Cemetery with Dr. M. B. Morrow officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cherokee County Meals on Wheels, P. O. Box 1886, Gaffney, S.C., 29342; or Senior Centers of Cherokee County, 499 W. Rutledge Avenue, Gaffney, S.C. 29341.

Robert Paul Goodman

GAFFNEY, SC – Robert Paul Goodman, 88, of Gaffney, passed away at home on Sunday, September 25th. He was born on June 20, 1917, in Kaw City, OK, son of Henry and Hattie Goodman, and was married to Wanda Myers Goodman for 57 years.

He was a veteran of World War II, having graduated from the Army Signal Corps Officer Candidate School in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. He served our country in Europe from 1942 to 1945 and then served in the Army Reserves until 1955. After a long career in the power industry in various states, he retired from Duke Power Company in 1982. He was an active member and elder of the Limestone Presbyterian Church of Gaffney, South Carolina.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Myers Goodman, and by three sons: Rev. Dr. Gary Goodman (Maria) of Neptune Beach, FL; Grant Goodman (Sonya) of Seneca, SC; and Greg Goodman (Kim) of Marietta, GA; two daughters: Gayle Lever (David) of Coppell, TX; and Gloria Young (David) of Charlotte, NC; one sister: Dorine Souers (Freddie) of Sebring, FL; one brother: Charles Goodman of Gaffney, as well as six granddaughters and five grandsons.

Burial service will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2005, at 10:00 AM at Memory Gardens in Clemson, SC. The memorial service will be held the same day at 2:00 PM at Limestone Presbyterian Church in Gaffney with visitation following at the church. Memorials may be made to Limestone Presbyterian Church, 101 E. Jefferies Street, Gaffney, SC, 29340.

Tony Spencer

UNION, SC –Tony Spencer, 33, of 1405 Peach Orchard Road, Lot 6, Union, passed away September 25, 2005 at Wallace Thompson Hospital.

A native of Gaffney, he was the husband of Amanda Smith and son of the late Jack Alonzo Spencer and Opal Black Spencer. He was employed by Wal-Mart and was of the Baptist Faith.

Also surviving are a son, Brandon Wiggins of the home; two daughters, Christine Weathers of the home and Samantha Henderson, of Gaffney. Mr. Spencer was preceded in death by a brother, Brian Jeffery Spencer.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 28, 2005 in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel.

The family will be at the home of Jean Murph at 2408 Union Highway, Gaffney, SC.

Ida H. Mobley

Retired public health nurse

COLUMBIA Ida Hamilton Mobley, 83, died Monday, Sept. 26, 2005, at NHC Healthcare of Parklane Road where she was a resident.

Mrs. Mobley was born on June 25, 1922, in Edgefield, S.C., the daughter of the late Fred L. Hamilton and Ruby Watson Hamilton. For 61 years, she was the wife of the late Robert A. Mobley Sr. Mrs. Mobley was a retired public health nurse and a member of Lancaster First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Mobley is survived by a son, Alton Mobley and his wife, Norma Jean, of Columbia; a daughter, Anne Mobley Childers and her husband, Gene, of Gaffney; and four grandchildren, Elizabeth Childers Hamilton and her husband, Dr. Brent Hamilton, of Charleston, Lawrence E. Childers III of Columbia, Paul Hamilton Mobley of Raleigh, N.C., and Alison Mobley of Elon, N.C.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at Lancaster Memorial Park, conducted by the Revs. Rob O'Neal and Roy Barnes. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1–2:30 p.m. at Hartley Funeral Home.

Serving in U.S. Air Force

AFC James Lamont Koffler III, 21, of 311 Elm St., died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, at Harbor View Medical Center, Seattle, Wash.

A native of Fort Hood, Texas, he was a son of Thomas E. Crawford and Catherine S.

Crawford of the home.

He was stationed at

Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Wash., where he was a U.S.A.F. Emergency Actions Controller.

Surviving in addition to his parents are a brother, Robert R. Koffler of the home; two sisters, Emily C. Simpson of Missouri and twin sister Amber M. Koffler of Gaffney; and grandparents, Clarence and Gwen Crawford of Gaffney and Raymond and Deloris Doehrmann of Iowa.

Visitation will be held tonight from 6-8:00 at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home. Services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, conducted by U.S.A.F. Chaplain and Rev. Roger Lindler, MSgt. Matthew D. Jackson and A1C David Fermer. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens. The body will be placed in the church at 3:30 p.m.

Pallbearers will be a U.S. Air Force Honor Guard.

The family is at the home of Clarence Crawford, 107 Cypress Drive.

Rosemary E. Craven

GAFFNEY, SC – Rosemary Estes Craven, 80, of 15 Beltline Courts, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 27, 2005.

Mrs. Craven was born in Gaffney but spent most of her life in Hartford, Connecticut. She was the daughter of James and Bertha Brown Estes and was a member of Central Baptist Church in Gaffney.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Spanos-Beattie and husband, Bobby of Gaffney; Special Daughter from Somers, Connecticut, Brie Quartin; two brothers, Bo Estes and Cliff Estes, both of Gaffney; two sisters, Tina Maynor of Blacksburg and Mildred Wright of Gaffney. She was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Spanos and three brothers, Don Estes, Norman Estes and Bill Estes.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 29, 2005 at Blakely Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at Blakely Funeral Home before the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church, P. O. Box 8005, Gaffney, SC, 29342.

James McKinney Sr.

James Franklin McKinney Sr., 44, of 417 Pine St. Ext., died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005, at his home. A native of Gaffney, he was

the son of Evelyn

Irene Crawford McKinney

of Blacksburg and the late Alfred Eugene McKinney. He was a former employee of Footstar and was a U.S. Army veteran.

Mr. McKinney was a member of Central Baptist Church and was formerly employed by the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department. He loved his children very much and was totally involved in their extracurricular school activities. He was a former Booster Club member of the Gaffney High School football team and band.

Surviving are a son, James Franklin McKinney Jr. of Gaffney; two daughters, Ashley Nicole McKinney of Spartanburg and Bethanie Lynn McKinney of Gaffney; two brothers, Charles Eugene McKinney of Blacksburg and Timmy Townsend of Gaffney; and two sisters, Renotta McKinney of Greenville and Torie Busch of Forest City, N.C.

Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel – Downtown, conducted by the Rev. Alan Peeler. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Crawford, Jimmy Crawford, Alan Ruppe, Eddie Clary, Lynn Clary, Bobby Fernanders Sr. and Bobby Fernanders Jr.
