Vikings run past GHS in three-team meet
The Spartanburg Vikings showed Tuesday why they are rated among the top ten cross country teams in the state.
The Vikings swept the top five places to beat the Indians, 15-52. Spartanburg Christian finished third with 69 points.
“Spartanburg is good, but we are getting there,” Gaffney coach Mark Ireton said.
The Indians were once again without Josh Irwin, Zach Bridges and Everett Ross.
Kevin Eagle, hampered by a bruised ankle he suffered at last week’s meet, finished sixth overall with a time of 17:13.
“It was a very good, gritty effort by Kevin,” Ireton said.
Derick Burgin was the next highest Gaffney finisher, placing eighth overall in a time of 18:27.
Gaffney’s Jonathan Crossley was clocked at 18:46 to place 11th overall. Jake Dill and Matt Skinner rounded out Gaffney’s top five finishers.
In the girls’ competition, Jonelle Jackson placed 15th out of 28 runners with a time of 22:38.
