¦ The Cherokee County Solid Waste Collection Department and Recycling Center, to include curbside collections, will be closed Thursday, Nov. 24, and Friday, Nov. 25, in observance of Thanksgiving. The recycling center receiving bay will be open Saturday, Nov. 26. Extra containers may be used for overflow for pickup on Thursday, Dec. 1, and Friday, Dec. 2.

¦ A Toy Poker Run for the Safe Homes-Rape Crisis Coalition of Spartanburg County will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, beginning at 10 a.m. Registration will be at Mid City Shrine Club, 1470 Fort Prince Blvd., Wellford. ¦ AA meetings are held in Gaffney on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday nights at 8 on Carlisle Street in the building behind Limestone Methodist Church. If you have a problem with alcohol, you are welcome to attend these meetings.

Special events

¦ Southern Exposure, a collective of Upstate artists, is planning its third annual “YART Sale” Friday, Dec. 2, and Saturday, Dec. 3, in downtown Spartanburg. The sale is open to the public Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday evening the exhibit will open with a special invitation only preview party for patrons, architects and designers. Organizers say that music and refreshments will make the Friday kickoff an evening to enjoy and to learn about Spartanburg art and artists.
