’Cats progressing well after scrimmages Heading into their final scrimmage on Tuesday, the Blacksburg Wildcats are showing the ability to react well to adversity. The Wildcats ralled from a double-digit halftime deficit to close within six in a scrimmage Saturday against Class 4A Northwestern. The Wildcats outscored the Trojans 21-9 in the third quarter before falling, 71-65. “It was good to see how they would react when they fell behind,” Blacksburg coach Travis Miller said. “They responded well to adversity. We played a lot better in the second half.” The Wildcats also lost to Wren 55-54 and beat Camden, 67-60, at Saturday’s scrimmage. Miller said Rodney Poston and Tim Boyd had strong performances. Point guard Dustin Deese was hot from the outside, with four three-pointers against Camden. “We saw a lot of zones and we were able to shoot the ball well from the outside,” he said. Center Josh Butler also showed promise, Miller said. The Wildcats play their final scrimmage on Tuesday at Broome. |
