DOT will install speed limit warning signal at Grassy Pond Elementary
Motorists traveling near Grassy Pond Elementary on school days will be wise to slow down after the Thanksgiving holiday.
A district signal crew from the state Department of Transportation installed “School Speed Limit 35 When Flashing” signs Tuesday by the school’s location on SC Highway 150. The new speed limit will be in effect during peak hours of school traffic, typically from 7 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. and 2 until 3:30 p.m. The flashing traffic lights will be in operation when classes resume Nov. 28.
The state Department of Transportation did a traffic study earlier this fall at the request of the Grassy Pond Elementary School Improvement Council.
“Our school is located on a state highway. After looking at our traffic flow patterns before and after school, our school improvement council asked the state Department of Transportation to review our request for a flashing signal,” Grassy Pond Elementary Principal Mark Bunch said. “We feel the new speed limit will create a safer environment for our students.”
