Police searching for suspect in armed robbery of convenience store

Gaffney police are searching for a gunman who robbed Fast Phil’s convenience store at 720 S. Granard St., Gaffney, at 9:50 p.m., Tuesday, a report at the Gaffney Police Department states.

The suspect, a white male wearing a light-colored ski mask, shorts, a burgundy shirt, hiking boots, long white socks, was seen running on Logan Street. A witness saw the suspect get into a blue vehicle at Logan and Wood streets, police said.

The robber walked into the store and told the clerk, “I have a gun. I don’t want to hurt you. I just want the cash,” according to the report.

The clerk gave the gunman approximately $55 in denominations of $5 and $10, the report states.

Drugs found,

children removed

Sheriff’s deputies contacted the Cherokee County Department of Social Services after officers said they found drugs inside a Bonner Road home Tuesday where two children were present.

Steve Anthony Nicholson, 36, and Susan Michelle Mountain, 43, both of 2127 Bonner Road, Gaffney, are each charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

Deputies went to the home at 6 a.m. because Nicholson and Mountain were allegedly fighting, according to a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

When Deputy Jason Burgess arrived, Nicholson told him Mountain had a lot of drugs in the house and as the deputy questioned Mountain, Nicholson brought the officer an ounce of marijuana, the report states.

A 9-year-old boy and 13-yearold girl were home at the time of the incident, according to the report.

Cash stolen,

damage done

Someone stole cash and caused $1,000 damage to a Blacksburg convenience store over the weekend, a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office states.

The Blacksburg Food Mart at 1924 E. Cherokee St., Gaffney, was burglarized between 7:10 p.m. Friday and 8:25 a.m. Saturday.

The suspect(s) pried open a door and pulled an alarm box from the wall before kicking in the door to an area containing a safe. The burglar(s) stole the cash register from the counter, a money box and a VCR connected to the surveillance system and also attempted to get into a cash lottery machine.

Man accused of

trespassing, shoplifting

A man accused of trespassing at Wal-Mart was found with a stolen hat, a report at the Gaffney Police Department states.

Scott Gordon Peterson, 18, of 201 2nd St., Apt. 4, Gaffney, is charged with shoplifting and trespassing after notice.

Officer Sherrie Burdette responded to Wal-Mart at 11:30 p.m. Saturday and said she located Peterson, who had been put on trespass notice, inside the store. The hat was located in his coat, according to the report. Restaurant damaged

during burglary

Detectives responded to China Buffet, 1547 W. Floyd Baker Boulevard, Gaffney, after someone burglarized the business over the weekend, a report at the Gaffney Police Department states.

Approximately $800 in damage was done to the restaurant. Burglar(s) broke glass out of two doors and stole money from the cash register, the report states.

The burglary occurred between 11 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday.

Rottweilers seized

by animal control

Three Rottweilers were seized by an animal control officer at 11 a.m. Thursday, a report at the Gaffney Police Department states.

Gaffney Code Enforcement Officer Dwayne Fowler has cited the owner of the dogs, Shannon T. Dawkins, 31, of 113 Iris Lane, Gaffney, with three counts of allowing an animal to roam.

Fowler responded to the 200 block of Camellia Circle and found three dogs running loose that he recognized as belonging to Dawkins, the report states. Both city and county animal control officers had responded multiple times to Dawkins’ residence regarding the dogs, police said.
