Police say inmate hit jailer in face

DONALDSON DONALDSON A detention center officer was injured when an inmate allegedly struck her in the face.

Larry Branard Donaldson, 30, of Charlotte, is at the Cherokee County Detention Center on charges of driving under suspension, receiving stolen goods and speeding. He has been at the jail since Sept. 29.

Officer Marcella Burgess, 23, went to the AUnit at the detention center at 315 E. Meadow St. in Gaffney at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday because Donaldson was being moved to C-Max, an area of the jail for solitary confinement, a report at the Gaffney Police Department states.

Donaldson hit Burgess in the face and caused her to sprain her finger and cut her hand, the report states.
