Special events ¦ Southern Exposure, a collective of Upstate artists, is planning its third annual “YART Sale” Friday, Dec. 2, and Saturday, Dec. 3, in downtown Spartanburg. The sale is open to the public Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday evening the exhibit will open with a special invitation-only preview party for patrons, architects and designers. Organizers say that music and refreshments will make the Friday kickoff an evening to enjoy and to learn about Spartanburg art and artists. Education ¦ Gaffney High School and Blacksburg High school will host financial aid workshops for the 2006-2007 academic year, sponsored by the Cherokee County School District. The workshop in Gaffney will be on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m. at Gaffney High School and the workshop in Blacksburg will be on Wednesday, Dec. 7, at 6 p.m. in the BHS cafeteria. Completion of the 2006-2007 Free Application for Federal Student Aid will be discussed. By completing the FAFSA, students will be considered for the Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, Federal College Work-Study, South Carolina Tuition Grant, S.C. Need Based Grant, Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Stafford Loans and the Lottery Tuition Assistance Program. In addition to the FAFSA, the S.C. Teacher’s Loan, PLUS Loans, Palmetto Fellowship Scholarship, LIFE Scholarship and the HOPE Scholarship will be discussed. The workshop is intended for all high school juniors, seniors and their parents.
