Christmas programs
¦ Elm Street Church of God will present “One Quiet Night” today, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 3, at 3 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 4, at 6 p.m. Admission is free. There will be a chicken stew available, for a donation, in the Family Life Center after Saturday’s matinee. For more information, call 489-8386.
¦ Goucher Baptist Church Choir will present a cantata, “The Heart of Christmas,” on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 11 a.m. Public invited.
Fund raisers
¦ The Gaffney Senior Center and staff will have a yard sale Saturday, Dec. 3, from 7-10 a.m. Proceeds from the center’s sales help provide services to senior adults in Cherokee County.
¦ Upstate Carolina Medical Center will host a Christmas bazaar today, Dec. 2, from 3-6 p.m. in the hospital’s cafeteria. All proceeds will be donated to the local Salvation Army to aid the less fortunate during the holiday season.
Notices
¦ It's time again for the annual Gorski Cake Drive for disabled veterans. Cakes need to be delivered to the Cherokee County Veterans Office, located on the first floor of Peachtree Centre, no earlier than 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 16, and no later than 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 16. The Veterans Office will deliver the cakes to the Veterans Hospital. Cakes should be fruit cakes, pound cakes or angel food cakes.
¦ Blacksburg VFW Post 4941 and its Ladies Auxiliary will hold the District 8 meeting on Saturday, Dec. 3. A meal will be at 1 p.m. and the meeting will follow at 2 p.m.
Holiday events
¦ The Hickory Grove Fire Department will sponsor its 25th annual Christmas parade on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 3 p.m. Entries will be taken until parade day and there is no entry fee. Line-up begins at 2 p.m. The Grand Marshall this year will be Stancey Bankhead, a lifelong resident of Hickory Grove.

¦ The Rochester Family and other groups will be singing today, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. at Mountain View Baptist Church, 650 Battleground Road, Cowpens.
¦ Christian Heights Baptist Church, 605 6th St., is having a Poor Man’s Supper today, Dec. 2, at 6 p.m. All you can eat plates are $3.
