5 Keys to Victory
1. Pound, pound, pound.
The Summerville defense is quick, so the Indians should have success running between the tackles with explosive Quinton Hemphill finding running room on his favorite play the draw. Although the Green Wave may try to take away the run by playing eight in the box, the Indians shouldn’t give up on the run too early.
2. Get off to a fast start.
As the favorite, the Indians want to pounce on the Green Wave early in hopes of destroying their confidence. The Indians have shown a penchant for slow starts in some of their games, so they need to come out ready to play from the opening whistle.
3. Make the Green Wave offense one-dimensional. Only one team has been able to run on the Indians this season defending state champion Rock Hill. If the Indians stop Summerville tailback Dominique Meyers, then they can exert more of a pass rush on quarterback Justin Cramer on obvious passing downs.
4. Go deep.
The Green Wave defense will likely stack the line of scrimmage to stop the Indians’ running game, opening up opportunities for quarterback Malcolm Long and his wide receivers. The Indians have enough speed at wide out to get deep and Long has demonstrated the ability to throw an accurate deep pass.
5. Don’t be overconfident.
The Indians must be aware that their victory over Dorman wasn’t for the state championship. Summerville is a viable opponent and will play with great effort on Saturday. The Indians must match the Green Wave’s intensity.
