A Gaffney man has died less than a month after falling 16 feet from a billboard and coming into contact with a power line.

An autopsy will be performed today on the body of 43-year-old Elliott Littlejohn, of 608 Littlejohn St., Gaffney, said Cherokee County Coroner Joe Vinesett.

Littlejohn was transported to the Augusta (Ga.) Burn Center following the Nov. 17 fall from a billboard on Swofford Drive, about a half mile south of the Sunny Slope Drive bridge that spans Interstate 85.

Littlejohn was airlifted from the scene by Regional One and was reportedly disoriented, but responding to questions asked by medics. He was initially taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center with severe burns to both hands, a possible fractured leg and hip, and a laceration on his forehead, according to emergency workers.

Littlejohn was employed by Daisy Outdoor Advertising Sales in Gaffney.

Medics from Upstate Carolina Medical Center were assisted by Macedonia volunteer firefighters and AmbuStar, a private ambulance service.
